Trying to think ahead for the offseason and what to work on has led me down the road of what is necessary fundamentals and what is indivual style (for lack of a better term). I had a list of what I considered "issues" to address but after a lot of thought, I'm almost thinking, just get stronger. Backswing vs no backswing, lean (toward third for a righty) vs no lean. Toe, laces forward vs dragging the side of the foot, knee to knee or foot to foot finish vs figure 4 finish, glove swim, are these things worth the time fixing them? Someone help me out, mechanics or muscle this offseason?

Backswing = style but remember her circle timing as long as she is hitting her correct positions at the correct time she is OK...if the backswing or lack there of is forcing her to speed up or slow down then it's an issue
Lean = depends what how much we are talking about is causing her to be off balance
Gloveswim = see lean
Toe forward v side = again what are we talking about is she completely sideways and leaving a 2 in trench behind her or is she heel up at a 45 degree wear out the front side toe
knee to knee = I'm not sure how you pitch with correct mechanics without coming pretty close to knee to knee what your lower leg is doing I would not be to worried about again as long as you are balanced

As you can tell there is a lot of it depends the reason these things get focused on sometimes is because they cause other bad things to happen not that there are not great pitchers that do some of these things differently

Not sure if you have posted video before but people here would be happy to suggest top 2 or 3 things to focus on and strength and conditioning is in addition to all these, we should always try to be getting faster and stronger and be in better shape;)

I think your DD's form looks pretty darned good and she seems like she has enough muscle, how is her location and does she have "stuff"? Once a pitcher has pretty clean mechanics, and in my opinion your DD does, working on being a PITCHER is far more important and mechanics become something you troubleshoot if she cannot get the right spin or struggles with location. Don't worry, there will be enough struggles with spin and location to give ample time for mechanics work but by working within the context of learning to master a pitch or location, the mechanics work has a purpose and you can see results a little easier.

Thanks for the video I think the lean thing is figured out a little at least in my opinion. She starts on the right side of the plate and finishes at the left side of the lane and per previous posts maybe sometimes outside.

Think about it this way if you were throwing overhand and lined up your target step in a direction but wanted to throw the ball slightly off of where you are lined up you have to compensate for that fact somehow.

I would work on drills with a powerline (that is some kind of marking that makes a straight line from the pitching plate to home plate) eventually once she comes off straight down the powerline the need to lean should diminsh greatly..of course problem is you have to unlearn all that muscle memory.

Others have mentioned it but I would try and work the back foot as well at a minimum get her to feel her back heel staying off the ground it does seem to drag alot.

Finally fear not...as JJ said she is doing ALOT right these are fine tuning to make her even better she is already doing well.

dj - just have to note that the line you have drawn here is not indicative of how far over she's crossing with her left foot (rather it illustrates where her right foot begins and her left foot ends). Also, and this is a question...don't some of the PC gurus (ie; JavaSource) on here advocate landing just left of the powerline for a RHP with these pitches?
