I am assuming this is the horseshoe change? I have been working on this pitch with my dd and have not been able to get enough speed off of the pitch. I have heard others say to get the hand on the outside of the ball between 9 and 6, but it looks like in this video that the hand doesn't get outside until the ball is gone. Is she simply just slowing down I/R?

I think most teach to "turn-out at 12:00, and lead down the back side of the circle with the horseshoe."
In reality, most pitchers I see experience a bit of "re-loading" coming down the backside, probably due to muscle-memory of full-on IR pitches;
and THEN get the fingers to the outside and the horseshoe forward at the instant of release. (like in this awesome vid example above)

I think that late "horseshoeing" imparts a little action on the ball, which isn't a bad thing.

I agree with Corlay's assessment of the unload \ mini reload on TasukuYuri's change-up.

Here's another look at the the horseshoe change:

You are not slowing down the I/R you are arresting it...you are unloading the forearm.

Place your throwing arm in a "palm up" 9 o'clock position. Your arm is supinated. You should feel tension in the anterior side of the forearm (the side facing the ground). You should also feel your bicep flex a bit. This is a loaded position. Now simply pronate your forearm (turn your palm towards the ground) and feel how your forearm and bicep unload...have her try this...the feel is very distinct between the 2 positions...CP

I believe this is a death-grip change. Grip it tight to lock up the hand in whip. DD played with it tonight and ended up with a nice, off-speed drop. Hope to play with it more.

I wouldn't call it a horse shoe change. You would want to thumb turned inward earlier for a true horse shoe is believe.

It definitely not a flip change, or at least what I know as a flip change.

I would say it's either as Ken describes, or a variation of a backdoor change.
