So my DD was telling me she couldn't figure out until this past weekend why her new glove is so out of shape and then it dawned on her. Slapping it on her leg at LEAST a 100 times 3-5 days a week. She is actually discussing if she wants to try to lose her glove slap so she doesn't beat up her glove so much. I was trying to remember the ideas for changing that habit . . . but then thought "why don't I just get her one glove for fielding and one for pitching" :) But seriously has any one else thought about this side of the glove slap?

DD is/was a glove slapper. She broke in a stone cold Vinci glove in 3 days with her slapping. Her PC is a Tincher trained coach who absolutely hates slapping. They have been working with her to break the habit. I have a glove radar and before they tried to break the habit I couldn't care less about it. Once they stopped it she picked up 2-3 MPH. I couldn't beleive it but it's true. It looked so effortless without the slap. Problem is that she hasn't mastered control minus the slap. So she still does it during games. Sorry to hijack the thread :(

I don't think that's hijacking at all. She has always said that it didn't bother her, but I think at times her leg does get tired of being smacked for an entire weekend, and the leather "strings" sting when she is wearing shorts to practice at home. So I think she would consider changing it if she had a good option. But it is definitely very ingrained after almost 5 years of slapping - and there is always something "more important" to work on.

Instead of slapping, either have her miss the hip (to the side) or punch the glove out and then, draw the elbow in. That would keep the glove up, to help protect you.
