I have two of the Jennie Finch mats, one for each of the facilities I teach out of, and they have been great. Very durable despite heavy use, although one of them is a bit worn around the launch area. Not exactly sure how that happened - I think people who weren't me were helping themselves to it. I keep it hidden in a closet now.
I have the ones with the foam back since they're used in tunnels with turf floors. Well worth it since they move a lot less than the ones with rubber backs. The rubber backs should work great on the gym floor, though. The Finch mats are also nice because they provide a bit of cushioning on landing, which can be important over the long term. A lot of the turf carpets at home improvement stores are thinner and provide little cushioning. That can be tougher on knees, ankles and backs especially if there's a concrete base underneath. Not sure if wood gym floors would have enough natural give or not.
