I agree. Looks somewhat similar to this......View attachment 10387View attachment 10388

Assuming this is from here,

Cat's replant isn't so obvious. I don't see her taking a second push (extending her drive knee a second time) off the ground the way Barnhill does.

FWIW, Denny Tincher teaches a similar move. He talks about keeping your rear leg under you, or not letting your rear leg drag behind you.

If it's not obvious in real time, I wouldn't call it. Barnhill is obvious in real time (I'm just a novice bucket dad). I wouldn't be comfortable arguing that Cat is replanting.

I agree with your earlier observation on Barnhill's excellent overlap and hope I can figure out how to use this insight to help my dd.

I agree. Cat's replant is MUCH less obvious and I think some will argue that she doesn't do it at all. I think she does and just my opinion. If you look at the video from where your pictures are from (and mine) you will see the dirt slowly develops a hole from where she lands her replant foot (or not replant foot ;)) Of course, it could just be from landing but when you take a close look dirt is being sprayed behind her with that foot. I am no scientist (although I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express for a TB tournament once) but a replant/push would spray the dirt back toward the rubber and a hole would develop over time (like the one you see at the front of a rubber). So maybe she does or maybe she doesn't but I think she does. And if she doesn't, then she is sure set up to give it a 2nd push and wouldn't blame her if she did.

So let's say Cat doesn't replant at all. Again, I think she does but it is very difficult to see except to those who know exactly what to look for. I call those people members of DFP ;)

IMHO, she is definitely set up to take a 2nd push with her feet under her like you mention from Tincher. Again, much less obvious but the mechanics to take that 2nd push are there are ready to add to the pitch if she wanted to.

If I were to want to teach a replant/2nd push I would definitely choose Cat to model after because the option is there to do it.....or not.;)

FWIW - I remember another top 2015 pitcher that I scouted and my teams faced a couple of years ago, which I seem to recall was also illegal on every pitch. Apparently she was not surrounded by enablers, held accountable, refined her mechanics and made her way to the SEC. Today her mechanics are sound, she brings mid 60's speed with great command, movement and does so legally. So a shout out to Tennessee Freshman Maddie Moss, I am definitely a fan.

I appreciate the videos of KB, I've watched the feet, unless my screen is not showing it, i can't say she has both feet in the air? no leap?

If you google her on you tube, there is one there in her yet younger days, not nearly as aggressive. Has she been called on this?

Played SC Elite and EC Bullets over the years. Moss was much more impressive and her mechanics were polished. Beat EC and hit Barnhill no problem, but SC Elite and Moss had our team stumped a few times over the years. We were a little surprised that Barnhill was getting all that attention. She seemed like a solid pitcher, but nothing special at the time. It was hard to believe that Walton dropped Ashley Guilllette a few days before signing day to take Barnhill, could have kept both and done the right thing if he wanted to.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to see what either of these Freshman could do in Super Regionals or WCWS play. Both are talented pitchers with bright futures, no doubt. They will only get better from here and it will be fun to watch them improve.

Remember, It's not the leap that produces the 70mph - it's the replant.

Leap - no advantage, don't care, probably hurts the pitchers performance
Replant - "can" be a large advantage, when the talent of the pitcher really can accentuate the additional power move (like Barnhill : Like those baseball outfielders that can crow-hop that ball on a rope from deep outfield to home)

Put Barnhill in right field and she will gun down folks at home like ya never seen! (assuming her underarm crow-hop/replant translates to the overhand crow-hop/replant)

I have watched Barnhill throw long toss in the outfield and have no doubt that she would have a better chance of throwing out a runner tagging up on 3B from dead CF than 90% of the outfielders in college...
