My dd is 10. We had a workout tonight. We pitched, hit, and fielded . One of the things we close with is pitching from a baseball mound. She loves it. We throw about 10 or 15 pitches and we bump fist and we are done. Well today a softball pitching coach that was there, was being nice and told me since my dd pitches softball that she shouldn't throw over handed because it could cause injury. I said "thank you". I have never heard of this. Just seeing if anybody else has heard of this? Thanks

I've never heard that. Softball does include throwing. I will say that improper throwing mechanics caused some elbow issues in my dd (age 9). We took a long break then fixed the mechanics issues and haven't had any more trouble (knock on wood).

Maybe this coach is the source of all the college pitchers I see who can't throw to first base?!

Lucky us... Our first DVD taught us that "Overhand is the same as underhand" also that "that there is non gender difference"... After watching DD play T-Ball with the boyz, from 5-8...I knew that was true... heck I was thinking girls were better... really thought she was MLB for long time....Then moved to throwing 7 pitches @ 9yr old...

Yeah, why should boys be able to safely throw overhand but not girls? Girls and boys both have arms. All humans. It makes no sense. Anyway, tell it to our 10 year old catcher who can throw down a runner at 2nd like nobody's business.

If underhand throwing is done smooth and natural with IR.... It is exactly the same as overhand, except it's upside down.
Pretty sure you've been duuuped by a moron.

wow, we are officially forbidding overhand throwing for all of our pitchers. which will have a two fold effect, first preventing injury and secondly and most important, by "pitching" underhand throwing to the bases, will assure accuracy and speed getting the ball to the base.

Sarcasm, right

We need to sticky this thread.

Remember that if she is pitching to duck or get out of the way of any hit balls.

I am curious about thier position on playing another sport. I would guess they could play basketball if they didn't run and shot the ball underhanded.

Heck, is she allowed to play any other positions besides P? I guess OF would definitely be out.

PC prolly didnt like that you have her throwing harder than he does. Or PC saw some bad overhand mechanics and instead of correcting the issue he said dont do it.
