If they suck... well you have all the reason you need (and no real bad consequences) to make changes. What do you have to lose? When your pitchers ERA is 8.0+ and she or her parents complain that you are changing their style you have some real good ammunition to fire back with.

My DD's head coach for travel is a local hitting instructor but only 4 of the team use him The rest go elsewhere. He tells the parent he doesn't care who they go to, he wont mess with their swing if they go somewhere else UNLESS they aren't performing in games. Our normal lead off and 3-5 spot all go to someone else. His students bat 2, 6,8 and every other game. That doesn't appear normal behavior for a coach but it should be,"

Based on this accurate and well put post, what is a good era. Not talking about an Abbot or Cat who are freaks of nature in terms of talent. I know area can sway avgs as some are loaded like So Cal and Mayberry being sparse of talent. I'm referring to IR trained pitchers who put in 3-5 day's work in off season and of mortal talent and in HS.

Are you asking what is a good high school ERA?

Hard to answer because strength of schedule varies profoundly in high school. In DD's conference, 95 percent of starters are travel ball players. If you have an ERA below 3.00, you are good. If it's below 2.00, you are a college prospect at some level. If it's 1.00, you are probably D-I. But there are some small-school conferences out there where almost any travel player can post an ERA below 2.00 because the majority of players are rec level, if not virtual beginners.

I am not a big Era fan. I just care how many runs the Team gives up when X is pitching.

I do not like parents complaing about the defense, it is what it is and the same for all the pitchers.

Ms game the HC went out to talk to the P, parent next to me said. Why the hell is he going out to talk to her, she is the only one on the entire field doing her job.

I'm not huge fan of era either but is the standard in most circles. WHIP is my preferance.

I understand the HS conference can be a factor. While some conf. are strong top to bottom most have schools that just reload and others that fight every yr just to break even at .500 W/L. I just wanted a feel for what is considered the norm.
