One old memory problem that definitely shows up in her game pitching is upon drive landing, her left side really collapses into the left leg, then the collapse continues in the right side. Minimizing/resisting this collapse and getting the land leg, hip, torso, shoulders firmed up just prior to release is vital (as we all know). I believe this is currently her biggest old memory issue. Doesn't do much good to get a decent drive out if you're going to collapse into the land leg. It's like a shock absorber that is very worn out.

I've attached a link to the drill that Doug mentions he is using on his pitcher. A couple thoughts as you watch this......athletic movements should begin in the center of the body (proximal) and move to the extremities (distal)....so when doing this drill a key is to focus on the core of the body generating/initiating the energy.....yes, I know I refer to the knee (which is sort of distal), but it is the cue that seems to click for athletes that are rotationally handicapped. I am not saying this drill is the "holy grail", but it certainly will help rotation and connection (kind of hard to stick your butt out when you perform this movement).

is it really a "memory" issue,
or is it simply because she lacks core-strength?

Both (IMO). Like most, this gal could use a stronger core.

Given the existing core strength (or lack of it) there are things I have her do (like what Pauly mentions above) that improve the situation. By simply working to avoid the collapse in the right hip would help a lot, IMO.

Of course, she will be working her core this winter.

In this clip we are working on the "collapse" problem. There is an improvement. However, the best hips, spine, shoulders "connection" comes right after release. We need to move it up (i.e., get the current late connection earlier)--just prior to release. At least we're getting closer.

P.S. to Javasource.... Yes, she's working on strengthening the core, though not like I'd like to see.
