Ok so after looking through all stickys and a lot of what are think are relative vid links, I think I know what to start working on with my DD. As I mentioned before, she is 11 and started pitching in May. I've looked at vids of her after reading everything here and I think the top 3 things I need to work with her on are:

  1. Brush Interface
  2. Quiet Torso
  3. Internal Rotation

Yep, that's all. haha.

She has a bad tendenacy to lean and go butt out, so BI is going to be a battle. She's also been taught to be a "hello elbow" gal. Jeez why didn't I come here first.

So the question is, should I tackle those in that order? They seem to overlap a bit.

Thanks for all the help.

I would start with the sticky I/R in the classroom. that's where I started about 2 years ago when DD transitioned from HE to IR.

Start with posture. Nip that in the bud now... while working on IR. Remember, you're backchaining the motion... so spend the time necessary teaching her how to get her thigh into the throwing lane, to receive the arm. Realistically, a quiet torso is a necessity, too... so... you've the right idea in putting them all together. Toss away and challenge her to do the motion as well backward, as she does forward.

This subtle yet powerful statement above is pure gold and is indicative of the difference between a very knowledgeable instructor vs. the hello elbow instructor who encourages the pitcher to "clear the hip" so the arm has a throwing lane.

Java - if you need a place to stay while visiting L.A. let me know :)

I just had a flashback to DDs first PC and the two months we spent with the PC trying to get her to clear that hip. Every time DD's elbow would come out in that post brush contact move (like you see Monica do below) she would tell her to stop "chicken winging" and to clear her hip.

Mountain man- if you can post a clip of your kid you will probably get some very insightful feedback from Java and our other resident guru(s) (can I still count BM as resident?) Trust me....a couple of feedback points from Java or Rick is worth about $1000 in PC fees so take advantage of it.

I have to give you kudos for coming here to research pitching mechanics. I made the mistake of looking at youtube videos to help my daughter's pitching. If only I knew today what I knew then, we wouldn't be working on correcting some of those bad habits she developed…pushing the ball, clearing her thigh out of the way to avoid brush contact, walking out of her pitch.
With that said, welcome to the board!

You guys are awesome. I had a pretty productive evening with the DD. We worked on throwing to each other underhand and I tried to explain to her the importance of standing tall, keeping the torso movement down, brushing the hip, and releasing in close to her thigh. We also sat and watched some of the great examples of I/R online together (Sarah Pauly, Scarborough, etc). It was a lot for her considering we've spent 5 months learning the opposite. She's a trooper though and I gave her some drills from the vids I've found on here. It will take time. It's a marathon not a sprint, right?

Ok, here is a vid of her from last week. Like I said, there's a lot wrong here but let's consider this the "before vid". :) Hopefully in a few months things will be different. I just wish I'd have come here months ago.

Dude...she's fine for where she is on the curve....you are in the right spot....here is the video from my first post (I think) on this time sponge of a site. DD was about where yours is now age and development wise..

I'll leave the pitching advice to the gurus, but just so you know you are on a well trodden path...
