Start with posture. Nip that in the bud now... while working on IR. Remember, you're backchaining the motion... so spend the time necessary teaching her how to get her thigh into the throwing lane, to receive the arm.

Ok, it's not been quite a week yet but I am working with DD on the conversion from HE to IR. I'm battling my impatience here. :) But mostly I am just worried about providing her the correct progression. I am focusing on her leaning and posture first as java commented above. I haven't had a ton of luck so far and it's mainly because I am just telling her to do it and then showing her myself. My question is...

What drills would you recommend I have her focus on for posture and having her thigh in the throwing lane to receive the arm?

Thanks.

Were a few months into this journey ourselves, we warm up with lock it in, 9 o'clock, liberty, then on to a short step full circle pitch at about 40'. Then on to regular pitching, if she looks like she's not getting into her hip, we'll go back to the liberty or the short step, because she really hits her hip good at those points. Having someone video occasionally while she's working helps to go back and make sure she's doing it correctly. Not sure this is the way it should be done, but it seems to working. Hopefully some of the guru's will chime in.

The rear leg receives the arm, right? So, turn your attention to it.

What's the knee doing? The foot? Take a look at the heel... is it low to the ground and travelling rearward (behind her body, pulling it out of the throwing lane). Is the rear knee straightened? If so, it needs to be relaxed and bent.

Being that the foot attaches to the leg at the ankle... mess around with what the knee naturally does when:

1) the ankle sinks
2) the ankle raises up over the toe

Which one causes the knee to bend?

Then... is her rear foot at 45 when she starts the drill you're working on?

If the rear foot is at 45... and the ankle is up over the toes.... where is the throwing-side thigh? Should be... in the throwing lane... waiting to receive the arm.
