Has she been called for IP's? I see a brief plant and push, but my bet is it would be tough to pick out at full speed.

I see a replant, just not a heel replant. I see weight settling onto the rear leg, but I don't see that knee extending into a second push. I see a girl whose torso opens too much, which exacerbates the appearance, problem. I see a girl with too many inches of 'UP'... in her drive... which adds to the appearance of the 'replant' down. Watch her head rise and fall against the background. Every inch of up, is one less inch of out.

This is a tough fix... your best bet is to hide it the best you can. Get her to go OUT more square to the target... with little to no emphasis on opening the hips. They will do so with a powerful drive all that they need to.

I also see a girl that gets so open that she has a hard time NOT throwing AROUND her body. Her throwing shoulder is leading the release motion. As such, excessive motion has her carrying the ball, missing the whip. But, you didn't ask that... just sayin'...

Edit: I also see an EXTENDED hand and recessed elbow on the upswing, which really adds to appearance of the replant/hitch... as the humerus is rotating 180-degrees overhead. Try to lightly flex/dangle the ball on the upswing, allowing the elbow to be in a healthier position (leading the motion) on the upswing. This is a fix you couple with opening LESS... it will smooth out her circle and prevent a possible injury. The shoulder is in its most susceptible position when the arm is elevated, you'd be wise to lessen the degree of movement in that joint during this time.

Best, ~JS

Java thanks for the advice and validation. I've been saying all the same for the last year but we are at a point where we are looking to minimize the issues. It's too late in the game for wholesale changes. Too many pitching coaches who promoted the end result instead of what matters....smh....If only I knew then what I know now... We have been focusing on the up vs out as you said and staying more square to the target so will continue. Thanks to all for the input and advice.

And yes ken she has been called for illegal pitches but in this image we have started to minimize the issue. It was more pronounced. But the only time it gets called is once we get to state tournament.....so I've got about 8 months to fix it up...lol

I do not really care what the rules are but I really really hate when they change them. Good luck to your DD.

You seem to have a good attitude about it. :)

It's almost never that I comment on videos but, I suspect many of her IP's are called because there may be a large hole in front of the rubber. Would that be right? She's doing the "slide replant" where dirt seems to stay under her foot yet she does land and replant. As I've always maintained, crow hopping and replanting are caused by the hands, not the feet. I only watched the video once (I shoulda watched more so I could've spoken here with full info) but there is likely a hitch in her arm circle which is what causes the ball to be released at the '2nd plant'. Does she get a sore shoulder? This is a tell tale sign if the answer is yes because a lack of a smooth arm circle leads to a pitcher using muscle to throw the ball and not the arm circle being smooth. I would highly recommend she do a "double circle" when warming up to promote muscle memory of a fast, smooth arm circle. Her feet do not move until the 2nd circle. The first circle builds speed and momentum and the 2nd continues with that and when the ball is thrown.

Where are you located?

Hey Bill, thanks for input. We are in Louisiana just north of the big easy! And yes she does have a hitch in her rotation. It's in conjunction with that downward replant on the back leg when viewed from reverse. It drives me nuts. It's like the circle drops and has to restart. She has been pretty successful even with her mechanics leaving me to ponder what could have been.... Sigh.... We will give those drills a shot and will repost progress. Much thanks again for everyone in the pitching fraternity for all the input. You guys are great!
