Here is a current video of daughter pitching...we have used the suggestions from members to work on front side resistance and keeping her arm close to her body and leg drive.... Her biggest fear is hitting the inside of her knee(which she use to do, leaving bruises)..she hasn't done that in awhile...I welcome any comments, suggestions and input....just as long as you are not too harsh on my video skills. :p

Crystal,

She's really progressing in my opinion!

While some here might disagree, I think she should focus more on driving OUT than UP. She gets a good drive, but it seem a tad too high, resulting in her foot coming straight down. Rick Pauly has always said (paraphrasing), "It's not so much how far you drive out as it is how quick you get there." Having said that, I had to get one of my pitchers UP before she could drive out better. Driving out explosively, without quite as much UP, together with firm resistance at landing (along with a foot that is more toward 45-degrees) will help her. Of course, driving OUT more rather than UP should help that plant foot get more toward 45-degrees.

Also, she's developing a bit of a replant with her right foot. There was recently a good discussion here regarding the drag leg.

I can't do technical analysis (even when people point things out half the time I don't see it - that's my DH's job) but I think she looks great :)

Working on 'whack assisted whip' will further improve both “front side resistance” and “keeping her arm close to her body”.

Why am I referring to it as ‘whack’ instead of ‘brush’? … because at this point there looks to be active avoidance of such contact.

Your DD looks very powerful. One thing I do see is she is pushing the ball so she missing the whipping of the ball.

Please look at Rich Balswick video to undestand what your DD needs to do.

Javasource has excellent videos describing more in detail what needs to happen and the drills your DD needs to perform.

You are right, she is actively avoiding the whack and settling for a brush. I even mention it to dd and she says, "I know but I am scared of the ball hitting my inner knee...that hurts, a lot." She used to step across her power line and one day she hit her knee so hard with the ball, a bruise formed right away.

Crystal,

I think if you DD works on pulling the ball instead of pushing she will avoid the whack. The ball will travel to the right if whipping the ball correctly.

The reason she's hitting that knee has to do with her avoiding letting the right hip rotate to roughly 45-degrees before the shoulders do. If she would let that right hip go forward some as she goes into release, she'll get good brush contact, she won't whack her the inside of her front knee, and her poster will be better (spine closer to perpendicular with ground on release.

I believe the "knee-kick" drill without a ball will help her a lot. Maybe Rick Pauly could step forward and describe that here.

My youngest dd will hit her thigh occasionally with the ball, pushing the ball while trying to brush. I think from learning HE style pitching first. Wished I'd found this site years ago.
