I've wondered....

In a world of coaches/players picking pitches.

See how Littlejohn's wrist is pre-cupped on her back-swing?
Presumably to pre-position her hand/wrist to throw that nasty curveball.

I wonder:
a) Does her backswing look noticeably different on her other pitches?
b) if it does, is that enough time for a RHB to pick and setup to hit the curve?(LHB wouldn't have a good vantage point to see the backswing as well...)
c) if you can pick the curve, even then, could you even get a bat on that nasty thing?!

You can pick it, or guess right... still got to hit it dead center, or you got a foul, pop-up, or grounder...

one of the best clips I've seen...

With the amount of movement it appears she is getting on the pitch, I am not sure it really matters if it was picked or not. :) I have been reluctant to work on any other pitches with my dd except drop and change due to working on mechanics. I showed her this pitch last night, and she was really excited to try and throw it. Not trying to derail the topic, but I was thinking that this would be a good pitch to learn to work directly into the rise. Wouldn't the rise be thrown the same way with your hand getting under the ball more?

A spiral drop? 12/6 are all drop, screw and curve? Believe me when I say I'm shocked and at a total loss...

Completely agree - and I think we should clarify for newbies that this is unusual - that there is a real difference in throwing one spin to different locations and learning to throw proper spin for the pitches to make the movement. We refused to go to a team pitching coach a few years ago because he was saying just throw high for a rise and low for a drop and we got out of there as quick as we could. Seems to me that you are risking having to relearn to throw the pitches correctly when you get to the next level, but I guess her locating of her FB will be really good at least.

My DD definitely doesn't have it all nailed but we spend a LOT of time working on proper spins - her FB is about a 1-7, her DB is 12-6 (when the moon and stars align) the RB is typically 11-5 back spin, and her curve is 9-3 (although at full speed it wants to morph into something else, but that is our winter project). Since PC mentioned it I have been wanting to get some video on here and let the masters give us their input - if nothing else when we get together with Ken this winter we'll see if my camera can pick up spins and post them. Maybe down the road we'll find out it was a waste spending so much time on proper spin but I hope not.

Good idea... I reworked my signature.... for the newbies. Problem is, if you don't have a signature, doubt if you'd read one.

It breaks & but @ 9... that's how we started out... just like your team PC... again @ 9yrs. old.

When she could all 4 directions.... then we went to 2Seam then to finger pressure... so it would
