The Ronald Mc Donald was our last of the season and HOF had a qualifier in mid March. Outside of a few in Fl or SoCal not much worth attending for recruiting purposes. But at 12 we(I) would have rowed boat to Hawaii in December to play a 2 game garuntee! Lol

I keep a strict pitch count when I watch my students pitch. One game is plenty for 12U. I try to tell them, that they don't need 5 warm ups between innings, but they are just girls and they don't want to tell the coach.

Staying under 100 pitches per game is a goal that I strive for. A girl that is asked to throw 140 pitches, is probably playing on a team that is making fielding errors. She should be getting through a game at about 75 pitches.

One year when U of AZ. won the WCWS, there one pitcher threw a tremendous amount of pitches (that week.) By the time the championship game was played all she had left was CUs. She won, but personally I thought that she wasn't as effective the next year, nor in the pros.

Pitch calling has to get better in the youth leagues. Here in Tucson I am not seeing much of it. The girls throw and hope that it doesn't get hit.

You are referring to Taryne Mowatt and although she threw a tremendous amount of pitches in the WCWS the number of CU's was not due to fatigue.

Does any of this "research" take into account pitching mechanics and what pitch is being thrown or are they just arbitrary numbers? As I go from tournament to tournament every weekend based on most of the mechanics witnessed, the first pitch is one pitch too many.

My 'research' was just basic web browsing and reading articles from various sites that seemed to have some knowledge of the topic. I was not going into this as if i was writing a thesis. I agree that i have seen some horrible mechanics. My DDs PC likes a compact and efficient motion without a lot of extra and unneeded movements. She's never complained about shoulder pain or any other pain. I was looking for some additional feedback from those on this site because, for the most part, i respect the advice that I've received in the past.

That is pretty harsh.

It may be harsh, but do you disagree? I just it strange how many see arbitrary pitch counts as a safety net but seem to discount the danger posed by bad mechanics. Even with pitch counts many pitchers may very well experience problems later in their career due to the way they throw, irrespective of how much they throw.
