The biggest problem is, it just doesn't matter how fast you throw. I can't even remember the last time I clocked my DD. It just doesn't matter.

Can you move it? Can you hit your spots? Congrats you are a pitcher. Everyone else is just a thrower.

I agree that if you lack command and/or movement then velocity does not matter. However, if you have both command and movement then velocity makes you the best of the best.

i have a 55 and a 57 on my 14U team (spikes 1 mph higher for both), clocked using two pocket radars and the rev fire speed feature. There are plenty of 60+ 14 year olds around SoCal, but you won't see all of them in 14U. Most of them have been playing up for a season, or even two. I had a 12U eligible girl who filled in for an 18u team, and eventually went to a 16u team.
But yeah, there are some goofy numbers out there for sure.

Few weeks ago we played a charity event that had a skills competition...

Lots of folks there who have told me there DD throws 60, 58...whatever

All with a juggs gun

Fastest 12U was 53...the girls who finished 2nd and 3rd are 2 of mine at 51...this matches exactly to my pocket radar BTW.

I think some of the exaggerators DD's lost a few MPH because they ate too much humble pie ;)

We had a 2-3 year stretch locally that had several 16-18 yr old girls throwing 65+/- and a couple of them were hitting that 60 at 14 but most weren't getting there till about 16. One of the girls was at 58 at 10u with the 11 inch ball. Scariest thing I had ever seen because my dd had just started and was throwing like at 35. Fairly big but very strong girls that busted their butts. But in the last few years it seems that those kind of girls are rare. One kid, that here dad has been claiming 70+ since she was 14, will be at a top 10 d1 college next year and I will be shocked if she hits 62. After a brag session from her pops at the Sparkler 2years ago I proceeded to clock her at 58 and illegal. So I know those kids are out there but until I see for myself I remain skeptical as we all are with "those" parents.

What I have found is you get most of the nonsense from wanna be parents, especially at the younger levels. Their DD has always been that half-step behind the top pitchers in the area so they come up with all kinds of crazy things. Things their DD does "better" than the other girls because she has 10 different pitches. Or she is almost as fast as so-and-so.

Pretty much most of the parents of legit pitchers that I've dealt with over the years know what their DD's can do in the circle and keep it to themselves. There are the jerks out there, but I haven't found many.

For the record my DD was hitting 60+ as a second year 14U player, now 2 years later she is stuck @ 65 MPH, so we are trying to find some extra "umph" in her legs, because she has stopped growing!
