My DD is currently playing B/C ball. She's really developing as a pitcher. She wants to play at a higher level. So, yesterday she tried out for 2 A/B teams. She made both. Here's the dilemma. On Team A, on her good friends is a catcher on the team. But, they currently have 3 pitchers (2 are really good and the 3rd is good but still learning). Team B, has one really good pitcher and one decent pitcher. So, she'd get plenty of mound time.

She's showing potential as a pitcher. She's torn because she wants to play with her friend but she wants to pitch a lot and keep growing.

I know the draw to play with her friends is strong, but being the #3 or possibly #4 pitcher on an A-level team is not going to give her the circle time she needs to maximize her development as a pitcher. If she truly wants to be a pitcher and is throwing 3-4 times per week outside of practice, I would recommend going with the B-level team to maximize her circle time. If she plays another position as primary and sees herself as a secondary pitcher, then joining the A-level team may work out OK.

she needs to pitch in games as much as she can at this point in order to continue to develop- if she is investing this much time to be the best pitcher she can be- she should go where it is likely she will get that time.

Head to the team where she'll get more innings. She will have the potential for another team full of new friends. If the old friends don't understand they weren't really friends at all. The "friend" thing can be one of the biggest detriments to a player's softball career for girls.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. And it's just one player on Team A that's a friend. She used to catch for DD. When she's not pitching, they'll play her at CF. Which is fine. But, the kid has worked so hard to get to where she is. I'd hate for her to lose that.

With 4 pitchers, I'm not sure how often she'd pitch.

There is no such thing as a number 4 pitcher and even being number 3 is just to save the 1 and 2's arm.
