Congrats UCLA for your berth to the WCWS. Hope Tori is ok, tough way to end the season but I'm sure she will come back strong next season.

Back at the game...congrats to Kelsea Roth, ended her softball career with back to back homeruns.

I don't know what there is to debate about. At first my DD complained and then her coach showed her a picture of a pitcher's eye sockets without a mask. When DD's mask caught a line drive we were sold on masks and she won't play without it!

aren't softer balls going to be used somewhere soon?florida?

I have been told that NSA in Florida has gone to a 275#/52 COR ball. Since we totally sucked playing ASA this weekend, and due to weather only played one game for $400 we will most likely step down to NSA next weekend to get some reps in a 3/1 and work on some things.

IMO the video strengthens the idea that proper training can prevent serious injury. I hate to see anyone get hurt, but the video appears she flinched while bringing her glove up. It also appears she turns her head before the ball arrives. If so, it would have either missed the mask or pushed it aside without absorbing the impact.

I hope she's ok, but this doesn't change my thoughts that masks should be optional and mandating them is misguided until they have safety standards. A larger, stronger and tighter fitting mask may have prevented her injury. The masks on the market today would have done little to no good if indeed she was hit in the side of the head.
