I see a lot of information on the arm and I/R and also front side resistance but in my search I don't see a whole lot on what the hips do at release, Can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

This is a great question! Wish I knew the right answer. I'll tel you what my dd is working on, don't know for sure if it's correct? ... getting more open, driving leg thru to close (not fully) before release.

Personally, I don't see forcing the hips. If a pitcher gets a powerful drive, where she starts her drive square to the target, and lands firmly with a efficient landing foot orientation, and efficient transfer of ground-force energy through the core........CONNECTION......I think the hips will be in the right place, with the torso directly over the hips.

I have seen the same thing and it makes sense, but I think if it more as the core has to torque than the hips have to turn. The hips do turn a little but I think I think it is more of a byproduct of a stretching the core than turning the hips.

Yes its a core movement not to be confused with hips only. I agree! The hips are more of a bi product of the core torque! But what about the guys that say its bad and leads to slam the door?

What about guys like BM that say land at a 45? I may be wrong but I see the core and hips rotate and stop the rotation at around the 45 degree mark!

Can someone tell me what slam the door is and why its supposedly bad? Does it mean you are walking through and have no resistance?

Can you achieve the core torque and front side resistance? Don't fall over the cliff?

From what I recall BM has advocated the foot landing at 45. And a 45 degree hip angle at release. I don't remember anything about landing with the hips at 45. I think the foot angle is directly related to having it in a position where the hip is free to rotate a little into release. When it is at 90 the foot will lock the leg and prevent any hip rotation or at least restrict it.

As for slamming the door, that is just a misguided cue aimed at getting core torque. It is misguided because if the hips do indeed slam shut then the arm is in a bowling position at release.

To sum it up I would say you want to get open so you have enough room to torque the core for power while still allowing g the arm to be in a position to effectively internally rotate and the body to effectively adduct into release. Close too much and you kill addiction and I/R. Close too little and you leave core power untapped.

Closed in this case being hips open? LOL! I can never get this right because people say it differently!
