As long as you're on my field, you'll do it my way.

This is what an assistant coach told one of my 10u pitchers.

Sigh. The struggle is real.

So hard for these parents and kids to be pulled in two different directions.:(

Wow that not even close to how it should be. Did the head coach have anything to say about that? I mean for some things on the fields that make sense cause each coach has a style they want the team to be but the hard part is it really does not apply to pitchers. Each pitcher is unique and possess their own style you cant cookie cut pitchers. it just does not work that way. I would talk to the girl and the parents because they need to let the coach know that if your spending your money and time with a pitching coach thats the way it is gonna be and the coach needs to respect that.

Sorry but this wouldn't be a struggle for me (assuming this is TB and not rec ball). The conversation would basically mirror what texas4life just said:

"Coach, my DD has a PC that we are paying to teach her properly. I can assure you we did our homework before hiring the PC. If you or your AC have an issue with what she is being taught, I can respect that but you'll need to discuss that with her PC. In the meantime, DD is going to pitch how she is being taught. If that isn't acceptable to you, thanks for all the opportunities and best of luck in the future. We'll be moving along."

I am teaching a pitcher's sister to catch. I do not charge the catchers. She is 9, I taught her to set up flat footed. I ran into her, as a game was starting. She said "Daddy is making me catch, only toes." I smiled and said "OK." sigh

It was already done prior to this incident. I make a point to explain that to the parents and my students. When my student was confronted by the coach and told to change, she did what I told her to do and explained to him she had a pitching coach and her mother was paying money for them. That's when he answered, "As long as you're on my field, you'll do it my way."

She did not tell her mom this, she was worried, she told me. I then told the mom. She said they were done now with that team as my pitcher made All-Stars and would be on that team now.
She also said she didn't think this particular coach had any experience with pitching. I told her that was obvious.

Several years ago at the rec level, DD and her best friend played for different teams. Our association had 2 teams at that level, and we would often practice together and have scrimmages to give the players more game experience. DD and her friend were both taking hitting lessons at the time from a local college coach, who has since moved out of the area. While her friend was taking batting practice, her head coach started correcting her. I was pitching, so I heard it all. She explained that she was doing what her hitting coach had taught her. He responded with the title of this thread, almost word for word. I spoke with him (as the head coach of the other team), and he insisted that he wanted it done his way. The next day I received a call from our local commissioner asking if I would be willing to add this girl to my team. That night she was on my team. It was also the last time the teams practiced together. The other coach called me and stated that "I think the girls would learn more if we practiced separately". (Note: The following season our association was down to one team at that age level - I was asked to coach that team)

It's worse for catchers, because everybody and their dad thinks they know how to coach the position. ;-)

Back on the dirt...
Similar struggle with my catcher from LL. Her travel coach wants her helmet off after "any hit or ball in play". I sent her mom with info and a couple links to the forum on removing the helmet and why to leave it on. He got a little testy with her about it. Crazy part is he in the coach of a younger team in the same travel org my dd is in. I told her to leave it on when she is with my group and take it off for his. Idk what else to do. But I don't want her getting hurt on my watch. Leave it on :)

A lot depends on the issue involved.

If they want to change a pitching motion or swing and you are taking lessons that's one thin. If I am calling
for a fastball and you throw a changeup or don't "feel" like bunting it's a different story.
