Thanks Chrispots, totally get it now.

Cheers,

Jason

You could argue Lacey's palm is not directly pointed at the sky but it's pretty darn close if you note the position of her forearm....there is just a an ever so slight angle towards 3rd.

Hard to see her hand here because of the blur but note the position of her semi-pronated forearm coming into release...put your forearm in the same position and you will feel what it means to "keep you fingers inside the ball"

Here's the clip I pulled those frames from:

When I say feathered release, I'm saying she's closing her hand in this order, pinky, ring, middle then index.... This type of release produces bullet spin. Bullet spin is a non movement pitch that gets hit hard. I was simply suggesting that if the ball is oriented upwards at 9:00 and as she pulls down, the shoulder and forearm will naturally rotate to forward, automatically, DO NOT FORCE THIS ROTATION, mother nature will do it for you. The fingers will naturally get behind the ball in a blink of an eye during this rotation. Thus producing a 6-12 spin and the ball should drop at least a few inches for a beginer.

Bullet spin is typically a result of a feathered release or a cupped release that almost looks like a failed attempt at a curve ball. Be sure palm is up at 9:00 and fingers are inside the ball at long as possible, let IR happen naturally. This will put her fingers behind the ball at release and a violent peel drop with straight spin will be the result.

I thought the palm should be facing 3rd at 9?

Do you have any info on keeping your fingers inside the ball? I can't visualize this?

Thanks,

Jason
All you have to do to visualize this is to record any high level pitcher on tv. Pause the screen as the pitcher is in her windmill, hit the fast forward button repeatedly to see her mechanics frame by frame. You'll see that she may be at 3rd around 10 or 11, but almost all of them will be upward by 9:00
