My dd seems to be explosive off the mound with a good quick long stride but somewhere in her pitch that energy is lost. Its like she holds back....Like she bottles up her generated energy. How do we get her to just let go?

Cant wait to hear from the pros bur for my DD its timing of the landing. Same mech's speed varies 2-4 then wham speed jump. If release point is in sync with stride foot landing is her best pitch.

How about a clip?

+1 on a video clip.

If that's not an option, spend some time reading, rereading, then going back and again reading the Drive Mechanics thread every 2-3 weeks after... Seriously. There are literally hundreds of $ worth of ebooks, videos and other great info that you won't find in many of the biggest college training programs. Every time I get into that thread, I swear I find something new. Same with the IR threads...

Bmd, If you are uncomfortable with posting a clip here, post one in a private message to Javasource. I can't think of anyone here who understands "drive mechanics" more than he does.

Having the same issue with my DD and started the "over striding" thread in this section last week. Might want to check out at thread plus the drive mechanics section. So much information in there to digest!

I am comfortable with posting a clip. Its just that I do not have high tech gadgets as most posters here. I can film her with my phone but not sure how to upload a clip from my phone to this site. Once I figure out how to do that...I will film her. It has been awhile...she HATES it!

I've been spending a lot of time think about this lately for my DD. A while back I read a thread in which Java discussed being off of the plate before 3 o'clock. I think this is actually part of the pushback drill and comments.

For my DD she does not get off of the plate until much closer to 12 o'clock. I think what this difference translates into is that her arm is much closer to 6 o'clock before her front leg digs in and resists forward motion. I call this bleeding power. Essentially she is still settling and bleeding onto her front leg into release. I think it makes for a soft release that robs her of power from her drive mechanic.

When you are off the plate at 3 o'clock, you are going to plant much earlier in the arm circle. I think you get closer to settled and planted with the ball still at 9 o'clock. Now your forward momentum stops and all that forward motion stays with the arm and the ball as you rip it through the bottom of the circle.

There is also an arm speed factor involved here. Could be that the arm circle is too fast initially, but I don't think slowing it down is the way to go. I think we need to speed up the drive mechanic.

A video clip would help, but the first place I would look is her drag leg. If she is "bowling" with her drag foot she is losing a lot of power.
