I'm trying to fix my DD's bullet spin and have seen reference to the crossfire drill but can't seem to find it here anywhere. Can anyone help out?

Thanks,

J

How old is your DD? Depending on age bullet spin may not be so bad. I would recommend that you read over the I/R stickies at the top of this section.

Oh, welcome to the board!

I now know the bullet spin my then 9 yr old was throwing were not nearly as bad as what her pc was telling her. All we could focus on was the HE finish. She had a lot of whip in that spin...

i thought you were not a pitching coach oilf. in my experience bullet spin comes naturally with ir and as focus moves from mechanics to spin the bullet spin moves to drop spin with effort and practice.

so the spins people discuss on this board are not the proper spins that you are looking for and want on your team? drop?? rise?? how do your teams do without these spins? all change ups all the time doesn't sound very good!

I don't follow the spins people discuss on this board or know what flipping your hand over causes in a FB. I was just watching bullet spin a few hours ago, and I stand by it being a mistake no matter how you get it. That pitcher will not be a pitcher on my team, when the one next to her is pitching proper spins.

What are proper spins, in your opinion?

The post above about the pitcher stepping to her right and the catcher stepping to her right (for a lefty it would be opposite) is what Rick Pauly calls the crossfire drill. It can be done with bouncing the Cannonball but doesn't need to be. You can't get the ball across to the catcher without internal rotation.

It's been my experience that the bullet spin is caused when the ball coming off the hand early in the snap and not getting the full IR finish. This doesn't mean your not doing the correct IR snap, the ball has left your hand causing the bullet spin. With the peel drop the hand is behind the ball early and not an issue. One way to get your pitcher to snap the ball later in the IR, is to have her pitch the ball on the ground. Like she is rolling grounders from 2nd base to home plate. The goal is to roll the ball with as little air or hop possible. You can also have her point at the ball on the ground after the snap. I hpoe this helps , learning IR is worth it.

OILF you crack me up, lol. I find it hard to believe that if a Pitcher walked onto your field and could throw a 65+ mph FB that had bullet spin. That you'd asked them to leave. Yeah right!
