I love it. Anything that can bring to light the need for a rule change in this area is OK in my book. Time for fastpitch to have one set of pitching rules from ASA to High school to college to NPF to ISF and the men's game.

I show my girls videos of Cat Osterman pitching and have to tell them that she is the greatest pitcher in the world but you can't lift your rear foot like she does.

So this kid has clearly worked her butt off, learned all the intricacies to be a successful pitcher at a major D1 all at a height of 5'4". Don't you all think that if it was an easy fix that she would have done it? I don't get the sense that this kid lacks for work ethic. I am sure they tried all off season to work out the kink and couldn't do it. Should she really be shut down because of an inch of daylight under her rear foot during a pitch that would be legal if she played in NPF or internationally?

It's just ridiculous.

Bottom line is that it is a rule. Making an exception to one rule opens the door to making exceptions to other rules. Does it give her an unfair advantage as compared to pitchers that are pitching correctly within the rules? Maybe, maybe not. But it is the rule and modifying a shoe to circumvent the rule is cheating pure and simple in my book.

The real shame is all of the coaches and umpires that let it go up until this point...

But if altering your shoe is also within the rules then how is that cheating?
