One more thing that should be considered is wingspan. A girl 5'9" could easily have a wingspan the same as a girl 6'1". It usually doesn't happen too often but it definitely happens. Maybe not the same but within an inch for sure.

All I have to say is My DD is number 17 :)

and a girl 5'9" with wingspan of 6'1" girl would look kinda apish :)

FWIW - My DD is 5'-9" and I am 6'-1". Her wing span and inseam are within an inch of mine. Definitely helps with her velocity.

The longer levers require more torque to move, the smaller levers move more quickly. The tradeoff is about the same, so no increase in velocity there.

The longer stride does move the pitcher closer but the delta is trivial in my opinion.

For every Randy Johnson there is a Pedro Martinez.

It goes both ways...many taller people have a less than average wingspan for their height. So you get a shorter girl with an above average wingspan vs a taller girl with a shorter wingspan and walla...

Well he maybe right. Less distance or ball to travel, so ball is subject to less drag, less drag would give more speed. It may be so miniscule that you wouldnt notice but in theory he is probably right.

In theory, but we measure peak velocity and not the veloctiy averaged over the pitching distance.

Is this an IR thing? I admittedly don't understand IR. I leave the instruction up to her coach so I haven't looked into it much. I hear her use terms such as arm whip and I haven't heard "Hello Elbow" since 10U so I suspect she's doing something simliar to IR, but I really don't know.

Whatever the method, my understanding is that a large portion of the pitching speed comes from the legs. Longer legs, more powerful stride, more speed? What am I missing?

No, not an IR thing. The pitcher won't pitch faster by being closer. Being closer just reduces the amount of time the hitter has to pick up the ball.

How about short players with long levers? My dd is 5'1 with long arms. Everyone in the family used to tease her about it because she has arms like a tall person but the torso of someone short, but it does seem to help a lot with creating a great whip for her pitch.
