2 questions:

1....My DD just starting with a pitching coach a few weeks ago. She seems to be pretty good and my DD likes her. The issue is that it's starting to get cold here and the PC doesn't have an indoor place to practice. I'm trying to find a place without breaking the bank (having to pay for the place and practice). I'm concerned that I'll have to TRY to coach her myself this winter.

2....My DD's upper body seems to come over her front leg when she pitches. I'm wonder if she would be a "natural" peel drop thrower? Should I focus on that in the winter?

Yes, getting practice in the winter time can be a chore. Try to get as creative as possible in where you can go. When my DD was pitching from 40' I would go in the winter to our local recreation facility and use a racketball court. From one corner to the other corner across the court is a little over 40' so we would pitch in there with a "softie" ball.

I am assuming that your DD is just getting started with pitching. If that is the case I would just focus on sound mechanics. If she is throwing a peel or a fastball is up to you depending on your preference, your thoughts on her long term development, and your philosophy on pitching. If you watch some of Hillhouse's videos I think he always starts with the peel (someone correct me if I am wrong).

My 13 yo DDs primary pitch is her drop ball and it seems to come naturally to her. I think in time you will find out what naturally comes to your DD then go with it. In her video she appears to be a strong, athletic girl. Best of luck this winter. Not sure where you are located, but it is in the 80s today in the south.

Thanks Pump....I'll try to find places that we can go with PC. If not, she can pitch down the hall at home. I have diamond "softie" balls. So, she won't put holes in the wall.

This was her first year pitching (she's 11). I taught her everything she knows (good and bad) from what I tried to learn from this great site.

Naturally, I think the turnover drop is what will work for her. You couldn't really tell from that video, but a lot of the time she'll actually turn her hand over when she's releasing....the ball breaks low and away (from a right handed batter).

Try your local church. A lot of churches around here have basketball gyms. That's going to be our practice area this winter. Plus it will make me go to church better. So that's a win-win for both of us.

Good Luck
