Going into sophomore year and DD has not progressed in speed for severl months, maybe even dropped a few mph. Her PC videos her lessons and mechanics look fundamentally sound. Been doing some off season workouts as well. Do pretty much the normal warmup drills as well as weighted ball, long toss, etc. Looking for some ideas to get us out of this rut.

Without seeing a video, it is hard to say. If mechanics are sound, I would suggest a few weeks off for recovery time. Be careful with the weighted ball. IMHO, they are a recipe for disastor if it is over used or used incorrectly. An under-weighted ball would be more beneficial.....just my two cents but again, without seeing her mechanics, it is a a shot in the dark......good luck.

Thanks for the responses thus far and will try to get a video posted. After every season we shut down for about six weeks. The weighted ball is 9oz and only use for some wrist snaps and T-drill. Never go above the shoulder on weighted balls and actually just started to use a weighted ball in September as a buddy of mine gave it to me. Attends speed/core training or open gym at the high school.

Pitch maybe 1 hr 2-3 days per week, taking a day of rest in between. As for the long toss, that is not every session rather if we can work it in maybe once a week over the winter, about 15 long tosses around 75' away. Right now just told her to focus on speed and not hitting spots.

What is her speed and how many is several months? You cannot expect the same speed improvement rate as girls reach physical maturity. They will have good and steady speed improvement until about 13 or 14 and then it will be a much slower rate of improvement. Also 55 mph is kind of a magic speed where it seems lot of girls cap out and begin to have to really fight for every mph.

Human fitness - pitching speed, running speed, or whatever - does not follow a continuous path of improvement. There are plateaus and even dips. The closer you look at a chart of progression, the more fluctuation you will see, and the more it will drive you crazy. As you get closer to maximum, the steps of improvement will be smaller and farther apart.

How is her fitness? What is she doing to increase her core and leg strength?
My thoughts exactly....
Have you tried under weighted balls to increase circle speed?
(Wiffle balls)
How much emphasis is put on drive mechanics by PC?
Do you have a fitness routine after every practice?
