It is hard to comment on the arm action in the video provided, but what sticks out to me are the drive mechanics. I do not see the JS 2 step which will help her with more of the running lower body start.

I'm getting 50 mph speed readings off a pocket radar. Which I have used side by side with a gun and there is never more then 1 mph difference. I'm located 60 mph south of Chicago. Nancy evens was like 104-8 w/l in d1 and won a national championship. Word on the street she's the best in Chicagoland area. 2 lessons with her so far.

Not trying to pick a fight, just wanted to make sure you weren't using something unreliable for speed like a RevFire.

Maybe I get skewered for saying this but what stands out to me is a lack of explosiveness needed to pitch flame thrower speeds 60+.Back in the stone age when as part of team usa in my sport we had a year of training that included a big emphasis on muscle make up and physiology. It even went to the point of performing muscle graphs on us to analyze white vs red tissue make up to maximize workout efficiency.(cold war athletics) The short version is the white tissue is for speed and explosiveness and red is good for long distance but lack the speed.so you will never make a sprinter a marathoner and vise versa. So it may be just a matter of working with what you are born with. Does it mean she cant be really effective heck know. off speed movement pitchers are some of the most effective pitchers I've seen, especially against great hitting. Does it mean some of the Board gurus could not coax a few more MPHs out of her through drills and mechanics most likely but my suggestion is focus less on speed and more on spin/location and I have no doubt she can be very effective for years to come. Good luck.

What other choice do we have? We start now we got the 3-6 month window. Otherwise at 50mph she's done anyhow.

As others have stated speed is great but not everything. I don't understand why you say she's done at 5O mph? Are you saying she's done with softball or pitching because currently she maxes out at 50.

Gee I glad MLB wasn't like that or we may have never had a Wakefield, Dickey or the Hall of Famer Neikro.

I know I'm going to take some flack for this, but I'm not sure having been a super pitcher necessarily translates into a super pitching instructor. I'd like to see what Nancy is actually saying to your DD -- what is her instruction to your DD? Further, are there any clips of Nancy pitching?

Here is question that I would like to throw out there since radars/rev fire were talked about. anybody have any thoughts on what the affect of movement on a pitch does to the accuracy of a radar/Rev fire reading. since I have both and seen some patterns develop. Ive come to the conclusion that the more movement a pitch has the slower the pitch will be recorded. I know since the rev fire measures release to pop the less of a straight line the pitch travels to longer the distance so the more inaccurate the speed reading will be to the slow side. Also with a pocket radar same thing if the ball is not traveling in as straight line at the device you would think it might read a little slow. I would be curios if a pocket radar would be somewhat accurate in gauging the speed of a boomerang type trajectory. I have noticed that even though hello elbow/peel drop style looks fast compared to IR/ movement pitcher of the same age and skill but when you gun them the IR pitcher records much faster no matter the method of recording used.

You are right some who are great at something prove to be terrible at teaching it. Nancy Evans certainly has an impressive pitching resume but she also seems to have a fairly impressive coaching resume as well.

I honestly don't know what she teaches but there are some youtube vids of her teaching pitching out there for anyone who has the googles.

Google Nancy evans and you'll get her bio. She was a assistant at Arizona for 7 years! I believe one of the best w/l records in ncaa d1.
