She refuses to play anywhere but P and SS.

A couple of years ago we had a pitcher come to one of our practices as a private tryout. She was a pretty good pitcher, and would have been our #2. After the tryout her mom spoke with the head coach and informed him that when her DD was not pitching she needed to play SS.....he laughed and told her "thanks, but no thanks"!

My DD had another pitcher on her travel team. This girl had been with the team since 8u, so she had preferential treatment.

She was a Diva that was for sure and she would let everyone know it. She didn't hit in the line-up--ever! She claimed, I don't hit, I pitch. While in the circle everyone knew she didn't field either! The only time she would bother to get a ball is if it right back to her.

Someone has done her a terrible disservice by teaching her to be a pitcher and not a ballplayer.

My DD does not hit in college but that transition happened after she graduated from High School. Never was a great hitter but did what she could. This is an epic mismanagement of a softball career.

You know as crazy as it seems, and I always thought that way myself, and I worried about her getting into a college, she had a great riseball, but really that was all she had, so when she was having a bad riseball day, it wasn't pretty.

But she went on to get a great scholarship and did pretty good for herself.

Even worse than the Diva pitcher is the Diva pitchers parents. 2 walks and a HBP followed by a shot that the CF dives for and hits off her gloves. Diva parent "We've got to stop making so many errors".

Even better when some dishpit gives them the scorebook.
"We lost 14-2......but no earned runs... :-D

I'm proud to say I raised a circle princess - but not in a negative way. She is a fierce competitor and a loud cheerleader...and is not shy about it.

When she started playing in 8U, she realized that pitching or catching would be the only way for her to be in on every play...so she did both. When she started taking pitching lessons and showed aptitude for it, her PC was pretty firm about her not catching anymore. She still played other infield and outfield positions - just not catcher.

She always wants the ball to help the team...even when recovering from an injury at a meaningless friendly...

Her first question to her prospective (now verballed to) college coach was "do you let pitchers hit?" She is one of few on her current TB team that does work on her own outside of regular practice...and does get annoyed that others do not...

So next September...when she goes off to college...I guess I'll have to retire her tiara...maybe

DD is 26. She came to the diamond today to pick up her daughter. I walked out and said "Can you pitch?" And she said "Do you need me to?" :)
