From 14u and up you have to start calling it or they will never correct it.

14U is way too late IMO to expect a pitcher to make mechanical changes to pitch legally.

Went to a local D1 college scrimmage this past weekend - pitcher was stepping back AND lifting the front foot off the pitching rubber prior to delivery on every pitch - not even a warning...no real surprise though considering the BU was too busy chatting up the blond 1B coach to pay attention to his job...

You are probably correct on 14u being too late. I was just thinking that a lot of girls that are 12-13 will play up and some get a late start on learning to pitch. I was being generous on my timeline!

IWhat I do know is you have almost no chance of getting that called for an IP. I have never in three years of TB at 12u and 14u seen a pitcher called for an IP because of her drag foot not staying in contact with the ground.

This has not been my experience. Two weekends ago, one of our pitchers got called for IP because of her leap. This is 10U "select" Fall ball. The same pitcher got called for it during the ASA-B District tournament as an 8U. Her foot comes off the ground about 2-3 inches. It's something she's working on correcting. I'd rather it get called now so she can fix her pattern while she is young.

Totally agree. Pitching is a learned skill...and if a pitcher is illegal at the younger age, someone knows it and needs to correct it early...

I find it soooo amusing that the first focus here is on a "leap". A little leap = who cares.....No advantage!

It is just sooo amazing to me the lack of offense that folks (especially other parents of pitchers that do not replant) do not take to the replant. It IS in this video and it IS an unfair advantage over a non-replanter.

Illegal is just that, ILLEGAL. The question of an advantage is moot. The question of an outdated rule is moot. The question of a draconian penalty is moot. It is ILLEGAL. Ball to batter, base to runner, end of story.

Just looking

Sticks, was she called for an IP or are you just asking if this is a legal motion?

Actually she is a pitcher on our team. My daughter also pitches. I had captured video of both of them and was looking at both of there wind ups with coaches eye! I like the girls mechanics and actually think she's in a very athletic "open" position. My daughter is never in this position, the back leg is broke down. So I showed the video to the head coach and I told him I was going to try to get my daughter in the same position. He thought it was a good idea! So all of a sudden the assistant coach wants to see the video! He immediately called it a "illegal" replant of the back leg.....NO ONE has ever called her for a illegal pitch EVER!! By the time the team got back to town he had the whole team convinced it's illegal!!!i see nothing illegal. I see most girls back leg in a continuous slide and never seen anyone plant it ....and it just very briefly. I haven't studied tons of video but.....anyhow the controversy was started by the assistant. I've watched the back leg, she does keep it in contact with the ground...so she's not a crow hopper.
