^ I agree about the quality of practices. I tell the girls that it is like piano, if you don't practice it correctly, you'll never get passed Twinkle. (Although Twinkle is going to sound really good. )

When my beginners don't like to do the drills, just want to pitch, I try and explain that it's like gymnastics, you can learn to tumble and flip first before you do a routine or you just throw yourself across the mat.

12 yo DD took 4 lessons when she was 9 but the instructor didn't change anything. We did most of the work in house with help from board member, Hillhouse videos, a kempf book. And recently added some javasource.

We do use rvp so I can show her where she is at certain points in the delivery.

Some kids that she's been playing against over last few years are passing her in pitching speed but dd hasn't started growing yet when compared to these other kids. Read some old stuff on carly hoover the other day. The article said she was 5'11" when she was 9. I wish I had those kind of problems.

A good pitching coach is well worth the time and money to see them once a week if the family finances can swing it. If you are in an area of the country where softball is popular you may have to commit to going once a week just to reserve a spot! If a pitching coach has a bunch of empty slots and can see you "whenever" you are available, I would start to question how good a coach they are. That said, if you are working hard at home, you could probably cut back to twice a month or less as finances allow.

DD used to have a weekly PC, but that was the HE era. then early in 2013, we decided to drop that and go IR. nothing in the immediate area had coaches teaching IR so we had to go far and that means no weekly lessons.

I had to catch for DD and learn myself and with the help of BM, JS, et al, here in this board, helped DD make changes to improve her pitching. DD still goes to her PC about 3 hours away once every so often, and she listens more to the PC than to her coach Dad.

yes, DIY can work, but it takes a lot of work, but IMHO, it's all worth while.

One very helpful tool - a video camera. film, analyze and make corrections.... just don't over do it. :)

Thanks guys I feel a little better about it now. I really am very involved with her on this,I told her from the start his ever much effort she puts into it I'll double that on my end. So far she is doing great and still eager to learn. Not much eye rolling yet that I've seen, maybe when she is going back to the rubber lol.
