Hi,

I have read many posts on the site but just decided to join and add my first post. My DD is a 12 year old pitcher that has learned much of her pitching techniques from working with me. I have garnered my knowledge from this forum and many YouTube videos from coaches like Bill Hillhouse. As fall ball comes to a close in the Pacific NW, I would like to take more time this off season to work with her on her mechanics using one of Bill Hillhouse's DVDs but I am not sure if his newest, Pitching 101: Starting from Scratch, or Building the House would be a better way to go. Does anyone have both? What are the differences between these two DVDS?

I have both. They are both very good and filled with great instruction. The biggest difference I have found between the Building the House and 101 DVD is that Bill has simplified his instruction more in the 101 DVD. However they are both very similar and good additions to your library.

I have all of Bill's DVDs expect the riseball DVD. I think 101 and Meathods for Movement would be the two worth owning. The others are great but 101 covers all you learn in the others. My only disappointment with any of Bill's DVDs is that I want to see either slow motion video or series of still shots showing the pitching and pitches being done. Show me multiple angles as well. I am not sure if any other pitchers (who make DVDs) do that but I think that is very important. Luckily there is DFP to find that stuff. :)

My DD has learned most of her pitching from working with me as well. I have all of Bill' videos. I have all the video clips from Boardmember saved and now starting to use what Javasource is teaching. In my opinion, Building the House is best for girls just starting out because it goes through the drills Bill recommends and I found it more instructional. His latest is a good compliment to Building the House. I really liked Methods for Movement and Tricks of the Trade because they are great for fine tuning. I will be using his riseball video over the winter.

With all that said, which one to buy depends on where your DD is at in the process. Or buy all five if you can afford it because you'll use them all.

Hillhouses' " Building the House" and "Pitching 101" are basically the same. There where some legal issues associated with the "building" video, so he remade it, simplified it, and gave it a new name.....
I own all of his DVDs too, as well as all of Rick Pauleys stuff. Javasources contributions here in the past year are top shelf!! Look up the drive mechanics thread and read it all at least three times. Boardmember has been instrumental for a lot of people here too...

The term I/R is very specific to this site. Most people who teach this will most likely refer to it as whip.
Whip instructors with online videos...
1. Bill Hillhouse
2. Rick Pauley
3. Amanda Scarborough
4. Denny Tincher
5. Rich Balswick
6. Doug Gillis

These are a few of my favorite instructors who helped me in my learning experience. As far as resources within this site, you can look for threads by...
Board member
Rick Pauley
Javasource
As well as a ton of others I'm missing. These few are just more detailed and have spent hours writing threads that have been instrumental for thousands of others.
