I havent posted in a while so I thought I would seek the advice of the experts.

We just finished up with our first year of school ball. Needless to say it was quiet the experience. Pretty sad really.....anyway, DD seemed to take a few steps backwards during the two month season. We are now trying to re-focus on the "little things" that add up to be the "big things".

If anyone sees anything we need to focus on, please chime in! We really appreciate it.

No expert, but in my opinion, she is looking pretty spot on and she seems to improve with every video you post.

Thank you Ken.

This is probably going to sound arrogant but the caliber of school ball being played where we live, especially at the junior high level, allowed DD to become lazy and just throw strikes. People might say dont let her become lazy.....well that sounds good and all but in reality its not that easy. She didnt take major steps back, just a few baby steps back. Mostly in regards to hitting spots and staying focused. Something we will begin to work on....

She looks excellent, Boomers. Mechanics are superb for her age. Our DD's are the same age, and my DD has had a lot of high level success, but believe me, her mechanics are no where near this level. She's managed simply by being taller and stronger than other girls. I know if she doesn't improve her mechanics, the other girls will eventually catch up to her.

Anyway, imho, school ball is such a major step down from the caliber of play found in travel ball that it really should be considered a different sport. I wouldn't worry too much about any perceived "baby steps back" that she's taken. It's a good opportunity to remind her of the importance of the mental game, though, so kudos for staying on top of it. Best of luck, your kid is going to be one to watch for a long time! :)

Like all bucket dads I have an audible alarm that tells me when a girl is throwing insanely fast and the timing from release to where you hear the thwack of the glove in your vid is crazy fast. She looks great. How is the riseball coming?

I don't understand the laziness coming from the level of ball. I grew up playing sports and there were times we dominated (and other times well not so much). The expectations of our school, coaches, parents was that our level had to be top notch regardless. This particularly applies to quarterbacks, pitchers, team leaders. No one should tolerate it. Where did the players get this attitude? If it was my boys attitude, I would tell the coach to pull them out of the game. If it was the coach's fault, I would pull the kids off the team.

Does Geno let UConn slack off in BBall, heck no?

Please explain the contradiction of school she got away with "just throwing strikes" with she has lost "focus on hitting her spots"....

PS , not sure anything like that could be told by looking at 3 seconds of film. We don't see the target or the velocity of the pitches or know that.

I guess i should have said in my original post "if anyone (except for Out in Left Field) sees anything we need to focus on....."

Thanks JJ. The riseball is something that we havent started on yet. I know that the reverse posture/backward tilt she exhibits looks like she is throwing one. In reality, thats just her way of "hitting a wall".....something we struggle with from time to time as the tilt hinders her ability to throw a drop ball...appreciate the kind words!

OK, so you want your DD to improve, and you complain about something in school ball. School ball sucks of course and brings everyone down through no ones fault but the school coach and the other players, I guess. So you want congratulations for a 3-second video of skills, not game footage, and for surviving school ball, so OK congratulations. Again how can your two statements be rectified about the strikes?

The individual needs to be a leader and play their best without excuses. Does not matter what the rest are doing--would you tolerate that in academics? No in fact you not only get the kid to do better, but may take the kid to another school or class if the level is not right.

Because you are not telling the whole story. If you want to improve sometimes you gotta hear the truth. How does 3 seconds of film show the issues you describe or anything? And in this situation, I perhaps would suggest the parents and adults around the player need to improve, something BTW I look in the mirror and tell myself every day.

Screwball, who said I was wanting someone to congratulate me? I think we all know who wants to be congratulated for being a pretend coach of a pretend high school softball team somewhere in never never land.......

Did I say that all school ball and school ball coaches suck? No, you said that. I said, where we live, the caliber of school ball being played allowed my DD to become lazy due to the simple fact that she could blow it by the majority of batters.

Whole story? I wasnt aware of a story I was trying to tell. I was simply asking the experts on the board, who by the way are more qualified than me, to make suggestions on things that I cannot see....from what I do know, the story telling is best left to you.

.....and yes, parents should always strive to improve, hence the reason I am asking the board for advice in the first place.
