Well... My Dd did a tryout with one of the best organizations in our state. She made it . She is 9yrs old. We had the third practice today. She is 60pds soaking wet. She throws about 35 to 40 mph. Good control. 2 pitches, peel drop, change up. We have never done the hello elbow. I start seeing the coach showing the DD the hello elbow. My dd looks at me and tells him......that it's what my dad taught me.
Ok...fine! When we started pitching I started at internal rotation. It just made since to me. My question is....if this comes up again how can I handle it? I ticked me off a little. I know he is just trying to help. Share your wisdom.

He's ignorant and doesn't know it.

Politely ask him to come to this site and check out the IR in the classroom thread. Give him plenty of information on this IR and arm-whip stuff. If he's stubborn, simply tell him that she's not there for pitching lessons, she's got a pitching coach.

I wouldn't waist my time trying to convince someone. Tell the coach that she has a pitching instructor and is doing her best to follow her instructors teachings and leave it at that.

Agreed!
I've tried being polite, introduction to this site, loaned out Hillhouse and Pauley DVDs...all to no avail. No one wants to hear it. They believe what they believe. Every time its the same. People think I'm an idiot for going against the traditional grain of the hello elbow era. Even when they have seen my students performing consistently better than their peers, they still believe HE is the end all beat all.
Your best option here is to ask the coach to lay off because your dd is already working with you. Option 2 here is to volunteer to assist the team and then work with some other pitchers as well. Either way your probability of success is slim, and you'll most likely be shopping for another team within the year.

I feel fortunate that DD plays for a coach who won't mess with her. I was clear when we joined the team that I have studied the top male and female softball pitchers, read everything this forum has to offer and watched numerous videos and believe IR is the best for my DD and we are not changing.

The part I don't get is his DD goes to a pitching coach who teaches HE and the coach's DD looks like a bowler when pitching. My DD is not the number one pitcher on the team even though she has out performed the other pitchers and the stats show it. You guess who is.

Well....it's just funny how it came about. They had to have her. Going as far as paying for all her cost this season. Then the third practice(first with whole team together) they pull this. I just want say look at all these professional pitcher. Look, look! They do not look like that.

too bad , but the results speak for themselves, personally as a coach I don't mess with success ! If a player is having success with the way they are playing so be it , I may offer alternatives if they are inconsistent with anything ,If she is more successful with what she is doing ,it would be foolish to demand otherwise

My dd10 just joined a new team. The purpose of us finding a new team was so she could be the 1 or 2 pitcher. Well she is far and away the best pitcher on the team. Probably has about 15 mph on the the #2 and her consistency in throwing strikes is much better as well. When she joined them for her tryout(which was a practice) the other parents were visibly excited. Anyway. Everything goes great for 2 practices. We get to the 3rd practice and the assistant coach starts telling her to close her hips sooner, blah. I was chasing my son around so I didn't know what he was saying until we see in the car. His daughter doesn't even pitch! How does he know what to do? He certainly wasn't successful in helping the other pitchers on the team last season. They haven't pitched in a couple of practices, I am waiting to see if he does it again. If it does I am trying to figure out what to say to the head coach. I don't want to look like a big jerk, but I have too much time and money invested in this for some dude to ruin:)

I'm with 6k - as a coach, I have made it my habit to get with pitchers' parents and ask them: does your daughter have a PC? If yes, I do not mess with technique and limit my inputs to the mental and strategy/approach side. And I am not at all threatened or upset if a parent comes to me asking me to not coach pitching technique to her DD. If I do notice technique problems, I bring them to the parents and advise them to bring it up with their PC.

IOW, don't be afraid to get with the AC or HC and tell them "Hands off."
