How long did your dd practice before pitching in a game?

Dd8 just started lessons and we are a long way off from pitching in games. Her TB team already has five-ish pitchers. So there's no pressure or deadline. I was just curious how long your dd trained and practiced before taking the mound in a game.

When DD first started, she pitched 3-4 times a week @ about an hour each day for the better part of 2 months. She also pitched batting practice at times, which I think helped her confidence a lot. Just remember, she will tell you when she is ready to take the mound. For some it is a slow process and for others ,they jump right in. Give her time to build confidence and develope good sound mechanics. You are already on the right track by not wanting to rush things. Enjoy the journey together.

DD is pitching in college so that was many moons ago, but it seems that 2 months or so is about right. The real questions is can she throw consistently down the middle and not walk everyone? And no at 8U and first time out we are not working corners. Fat down the middle and only a few walks is the definition of success. Try to strike a balance of getting her in before she loses interest and having her prepared for some measure of success. And by all means make sure it is lots o' fun!

About 2 months for my oldest, but we really didn't have a go to pitcher. She practiced about an hr a day for 2 weeks to prove she was serious and then started lessons for abut 6 weeks and was the starting pitcher the rest of the season.

I was able to get mine 2 summers of pitching practice. It would be wrong to say 2 years, because we were in IL. But I had her friends in 2nd grade all come just to practices. We didn't play any games as such. And then, in 3rd grade I had her play baseball. It worked well for her, but not everyone has that kind of time, I know.

Agree with Rise, that was over 10 years ago, but around 3 months of practice before she threw her first game of kid pitch. Nothing fancy, just trying to keep it out of the dirt, from throwing into the dugout, or over the backstop.

My DD is still in rec ball so it's a bit different. She started lessons last summer (just turned 10) and the coaches put her into a game about two months later. It was a total disaster - she threw maybe 5 strikes. She gave up on it because it was clear she was never going to get another chance to pitch on that team. She got dropped from that team after the spring season, and decided she wanted to pitch again because she thought she could get a chance on her new team. We practiced for a couple of weeks (no lessons) before the season started and the coach put her in for an inning the first game and it suddenly all came together. She's doing pretty well for 10U rec ball - throwing strikes although not the fastest pitcher around.
