My daughter just started with a PC last Monday. He seems to be teaching HE. She just started pitching this year....I taught everything she knows based on everything I know from this great site (I've posted videos of her before)! I spoke with another PC who teaches the same thing (ex. HE). Do, I just stick with this guy until I find someone who does coach IR or keep teaching her things that I learn from this site?

He claims that he has sent 10+ pitchers to college to play ball. I don't really care if she plays college ball or not. She loves softball and I just want to help her be good at it since she cares so much about it.

Personally, I don't think there is a right/wrong answer to this. A lot of it depends on a few variables, such as: how well does your DD take instruction from you; how much do you truly understand about I/R in particular and windmill pitching mechanics in general; aside from "HE", how is the overall instruction from this particular PC, etc...etc.....

Answers to questions like these will be different for every bucket dad/mom.

Also....some successful HE PCs don't realize that all the other pitches they teach use IR. If you watch their better students, you'll see IR with a version of HE finishe long after ball is gone. If PC doesn't use slow-mo video, then they won't catch it.

DD PC teaches HE but agreed to still work with DD. She doesn't touch DD's fastball because of IR. Not ideal but will work until we find an IR PC. I live on DFP and learn as much as possible.

Last thing is what else the PC provides: input on warm ups, conditioning, mental game, pitch counts, pith calling, etc. those things may be worth faking HE finish or coming to a compromise. AND, What WaSpeed02 said.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I greatly appreciate it. I'll have to figure out which way we want to go.

OLIF - All major sports organizations us slow-mo....this has advanced every sport. The naked eye can pick up the finer nuances.
You are spot on here.....IR isn't an easily recognized term.

Maybe show the PC the slow-mo video of Jenny Finch from the ESPN challenge. Complete IR.
this might help but don't hold your breathe.

Whatever you decide, know that a supportive board is here!

cbullard,

If, when you say, "HE" you mean teaching her to push the ball palm down from 9:00 through release, I would drop that pitching coach yesterday. If he/she is promoting palm up at 9:00 going into release, I wouldn't worry right now about what he wants her to do after release.

The drills he/she advocates would tell us a lot. What drills does the pitching coach advocate?

He advocates palm down at 9 and then snap and straight up if that makes sense?

Perhaps for a change-up in which you wish to de-sequence, but not for active whip.

that's HE by all accounts. i'd be very cautious and look for another coach. remember, IR is a term used only here at DFP. When I was looking for a PC for my DD, all of the PC's i saw looked at me and said "I/R what?"
