My DD started lessons with a PC (that a local college pitcher recommended) yesterday. Through this site and youtube, I've gotten her to a decent starting point. This particular PC says he learned from someone who worked with Cat. So, he teaches everything that Cat Osterman does. I just went to her videos and it seems as if the style that she teaches is different than IR...more of a HE style. I'm sure I'm off on my thoughts...but, it's hard for me to visualize someone doing IR with the wrist snap that she's doing.

So, you've got "What Cat Osterman Says" and "What Cat Osterman Does"...similar to "What Jenny Finch Says" and "What Jenny Finch Does". Here is Osterman warming up...do you see HE or do you see IR?

Getting advice from Cat and Jenny about basic pitching is a little like signing your teenager up to learn how to drive from Jimmy Johnson--while it would be fun, it may not be particularly helpful.

While people have known about IR for a while, it was really Boardmember (and I hate to inflate his ego even more than it already is ) who spent the time and energy to fully explain IR to the rest of us. He also came up with a nice, convenient, logical term describing it.

Until he showed up on this board, I had never heard of it. My DD used IR, and she didn't even know she was using IR. She would have said, three years ago, that she used HE. But, she didn't.

If you watch Jenny Finch in a game, she uses IR. If you watch Cat in a game, she uses IR. They both describe something different than what they do.

Advanced pitchers don't spend a lot of time thinking about basic pitching mechanics. Advanced pitchers are mainly concerned about breaking pitches and "hitting their spots".

Actually, I see the wrist snap that Osterman is referring to in the video clip that you posted. I misunderstood her. She still uses IR, but she was just referring to the snap at the end of her pitch. My daughter uses IR (that's all she knows)...he just wants he to get a good wrist snap.

There is a wrist snap--much like a bullwhip or the tip of a wet towel. The snap comes from good technique and remaining loose rather than something that is made to happen. Cat's wrist/hand/fingers are closer to Gumby's than Schwarzenegger's:

Always teach what these top pitchers DO, not what they say to do, as they tend to be different--Hanson Principle.

I would any day take a pitching coach who can teach what these pitchers DO rather than doing what this pitchers say to do.
