For some reason I have been resisting bragging about my DDs recent stint at nationals. The back story is that due to politics and in spite of coming out #1 in the pitching tryouts she was relegated to the 12U "B" team instead of the "A" team. Anyway, the short story is that in the first six games she gave up 4 runs, only 1 earned, and they went 5-1. Their only loss was 1-0 on an unearned run. She averaged about two strikeouts per inning. Issued very few walks and not many hits. In fact, she just missed getting two no-hitters in that run. For the seventh game, however, she had nothing left. They were hitting her, the team was making errors, and they were blown out. In spite of that it was quite a run!!!

In the same nationals, the "B" compiled a much better record than the "A" team. I wonder if the HC is smart enough to be kicking himself now for not taking her?

Good story! I had something similar too. My town's all-stars didnt pick up twin A, but did twin B, next town over couldnt field a team and asked for help. Took both twins there to keep them together and help. Twin A wound up with 4 homers, 1 yard and 3 on long porches and started and played every game on infield. One homer was against his team and went 3 for 3...i had tears I was so happy for her. I feel for you RC. Awesome feeling.

Perhaps revenge is too strong a word... just showing them the error of their ways?

Ah, who am I kidding? The is no fruede like schadenfreude. Just like when DD thinks she didn't get enough innings, even if HC was 100% right to take her out, she still loved to pitch her best rec league games against HC's team.

I passed over a girl a couple of years ago who showed up on a rival team and went 3-for-3 against us, all line drives. And she was the fastest girl on the field. I knew that much, but didn't think she could hit.

Before passing on her, I had invited her to return for a second tryout, and they lived over an hour away. For that reason if no other, I felt very bad not taking her. Felt worse when she lit us up.

But in the end, this game is about kids, not coaches. If that game provided a memorable moment for that kid, I'm happy to play the fool. Good for her. Sometimes it's the players who are the teachers. I know learned a lesson.

DD #3 was in some tournaments recently with the rec league all-stars. One of the girls was passed over by a local team, and has a lot of friends on the team. I wish that girl could've played against the team that didn't want her.

In one game, I was sitting close to this other girl's parents. This other girl just does NOT look like a softball player. People take one look at her, and assume she will be way to slow to field well. In one inning, that other girl had two fantastic catches out in LF to rob the other team of extra-base hits. I walked over to her parents, and thanked them for their daughter saving the bacon for my daughter.

I've also seen the same girl get some monster hits off of DD in rec league.

I really hope some team picks that girl up. She is a great kid, who could really contribute to some C-level local TB team.

Sometimes it helps to be turned down. For some reason my daughter got relegated to right field in the fall(after getting 52% of the outs in the field playing first, and those were just the solo plays, the previous spring) and she didn't like the lack of action. She was a great fielder, and had the best batter average on the team, but was put batting next to last.

She was determined she wanted to have more action, took up pitching, and was the most dominant pitcher in the league the following spring. I think if she had been playing first she probably would have never wanted to try to pitch. It often just works out the way it should.
