Brush contact at the hip/thigh is for consistency, not velocity. We do a lot of successful pitching seminars, and we don't recommend that technique for 10 year olds. BHH has a flap you can attach to the thigh to get the arm closer. No need to hit the body.

While brush certainly helps consistency, to say it is irrelevant to velocity is asinine. Also, when do you recommend "that technique" to girls, OILF? After they've been doing it the wrong way for 4-5 years so they get the pleasure of having to relearn how to pitch?? Ridiculous.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Sometimes its hard as a dad to be objective and pinpoint the real problems. I know what I think but y'all have opened my eyes on some other issues as well. Every time we start working on driving with the legs things get out of synch really bad. Of course I'm learning at the same time she is.......for example I hit the tripod pitching as I tried to learn how the drive "feels". Now it's a bipod. Don't laugh I know you've all been there!!

Hi ga_smith,

Couple of things to think about...

  1. Get her vertical during the lean... with a stretched and straightened stride leg (prior to push-off). Note how the heel of each pitcher is still on the ground... developing a nice stretch.

  2. Overlap General
  3. Overlap - Point 1 Illustrated (BoardMember)
  4. Overlap - Point 2 Illustrated (BoardMember)
  5. Once you get these two overlapping points developed... the arm may work some of the 'bend' out... as it will perform a revolution quicker... If you're still a little too bent, keep emphasizing this (adduction). The better this movement... the more the forearm will 'suck the energy' out of the upper-arm. She might be cocking her wrist a bit, too... it appears this way in the video... and that stiffness could be persisting up the forearm.

All-in-all... she has loads of talent. Bright future ahead for this kid.
