How many fingers?

Just curious to see what everyone else thinks about this. How many fingers should our DD's use when pitching? I've heard some say three and others say two (not including thumb). What do the DFP people think? Does it depend on the age of the pitcher? Will fewer fingers on the ball equal more velocity?

Typically less is more. The fewer the better, within reason. However, the number of pitchers that throw with only two are limited as it requires a big set of paws.

Agreed...less is more.
A lot of it will depend on the size of the hand or the pitch thrown. But for a beginner on a peel drop of fastball, I like to see three finger prints across a long seam with the thumb and pinkie as bottom support. And if possible when dealing with small hands don't let the ball sit deep in the hand and touch the palm. Maintain a gap. Remember, the more hand or fingers touching the ball, the slower it will be.

The more fingers you take off the harder it is to spin the ball. A lot of this stuff about getting more velocity with fewer fingers sounds good in theory but not in real life...

Maybe life is different down in HS but here is some real life beyond that - 2 fingers with 28-30rps and a working speeds up to 67-68mph. What results do you get with 3 -4 fingers from your pitchers?

I'm pretty sure you can get just as much spin with 2 fingers as 3.
I'm also sure you can throw faster with 2 fingers than 3.
But like riseball mentions, the number of girls who have large enough hands to effectively throw with 2 fingers is not a large pool draw from.

can anyone explain why less is more? I agree with it based on what I feel when I throw, but I can't come up with an actual reason.

I guess it's also like a change up or off speed pitch. DD has all fingers on the ball with a change up and with something off speed, she's got more area of her fingers actually touching the ball than she does with the fastball....which is just finger tips.

DD's pc wants her using two fingers when she throws, and she's making it work pretty well for a 12 year old, but I wanted to get more opinions because a lot of videos and pictures I see of college pitchers, they usually have three fingers on the ball most of the time.
