we've all been discussing how to train our DD's to pitch better, but during a tournament what should a bucket dad/mom be doing besides not giving instructions from the sidelines?

I carry sunflower seeds to every tournament and my wife brings duct tape......the seeds keep my mouth busy and my wife will put tape over my mouth when necessary.

Proof that she's actually used it.....

My parental 'duties' at tournaments are to be supportive, to ensure that she's behaving appropriately and to provide feedback/instruction only to the extent that my daughter wants it. She's in charge of that. Not to say I won't go fishing sometimes to see if she bites, but I don't believe it's my duty to coach her between games unless that's clearly the way she wants it.

A bucket parent's duties are simple. Drive her there, give her to the team, set up your chair along the outfield fence and watch her play, drive her home after, and only talk about her games if she brings them up. Unless, of course, you are giving her a legit compliment. But don't blow smoke. If she asks for advice or instruction in the car or at home on her pitching, that's when you may give it.

I don't know about you people, but I found the concession stand a wonderful place to hang out during games.

Follow the three golden laws of "L"

Lawn chair
Left field
Lemonade (at least that's what you tell everyone you're drinking)

The only thing that I would try to communicate to my DD when she was pitching, was if every batter was taking the first pitch. Other than that I don't say much. "Been there, done that."

what would you tell her if batters were taking the 1st pitch?
