I told her to finish with a high elbow after she finished her regular movement and they wont know the difference. Once she throws her change-up they will stop telling her to fix anything.

You don't say how old your DD is. If she's heading into HS then you'll have a problem from the start. It sounds like the coach "knows" the best way to pitch. There are many HS coaches who run the camps to try and see what they have for players coming into the school in the next couple of years. Especially when it comes to pitching.

The best way to avoid the situation in the future is to have your DD avoid the "pitching" camp. Once she gets to HS she'll be better equipped to handle incorrect coaching and hopefully her performance by then will speak for itself.

If it was just a pitching camp she would not have gone. It does have some value for hitting and defense and has reinforced some ideals I have expressed to my daughter.

She will be going into 7th grade, so we have a couple years. The middles school coaches are also helping out. The coach that worked with the pitchers was one of the high school only coaches.

I give camps free of charge to any league that asks me.

I always ask which kids are already in lessons and I try not to mess with them too much on mechanics. Just keep it simple for them like generally staying back and balanced. I can then really help them on change-ups, etc.

I try and discourage my students from going to local league or HS camps taught by high school pitchers or local JUCO pitchers.

The big university ones I'm okay with, and I just pre-warn them that they'll want them to do their warm up drills push down/pull up/hello elbow.
Once they get to full pitch they won't mess with them anymore.--which also tends to be a problem because their parents spend a lot of money on a camp and then there isn't anything to fix.

I've had a few high schoolers attend some camps where they have those "instant" fixes that they say gives them an added 5mph.
Then they get frustrated when the different presentation or the gas pedal didn't give them that 5mph on my gun.:p

Its always struck me how my DDs IR moving type pitch looks slower than the hello elbow no movement straight to the mitt pitch looks and pops because of how it hits the catchers mitt. But once you gun them the IR is about 5MPH Faster. really deceiving. Personally Im done with camps.3 years ago we did a couple and went to Teresa Wison ( ex UW Coach) camp with both my 10/12 u DDs. They were both throwing almost as hard and as accurate as the High school pitchers. She totally ignored us. after the clinic was over she came to me and my DDs and told them if they continued with IR they would both have bad shoulder damage and never make it to college. Should have seen the look on their young faces. I did my best to calm them down. next week I signed them up for a Doug Gillis camp. we went to that camp and he took one look at them keep up the good work!. I guess if you are going to go to a clinic you need to do your research. don't just name shop.

Wilson had her own way of dealing with players with shoulder pain at UW. Which is why she got canned. :)

Dial,

You may be in an entirely different part of the world than I, but I think my DD went to the same camp. ;)

Thanks,
Adam

What happened to the MD. who was working with her? I can't remember if he lost is licenses because of it or not. I know there was an "investigation" and she walked away with a slap on the wrist. I really think the university wanted it swept under the carpet as quietly as possible.

License suspended. Sentenced by the feds to 60 days home detention. She filed a lawsuit, most if not all was tossed. Ended up as an AC with Arizona(?). To your point UW wanted her to just go away quickly and quietly.
