My DD has been continuing to work on her mechanics. She has been trying to stay open longer and not slam the door with her hips/shoulders. In the past week or so, it seems like she isnt stabilizing as well as she has in the past....basically falling to the ball side after release or taking an extra step. Im wondering if anyone can give us some guidance as to what is causing this. I have reviewed video after video but cannot find it but that is pretty common for me as i am not a pitching coach. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Full speed video is in the next post....

Sorry, but I see nothing wrong with what she's doing after release.

You can sure see Javasource's influence written all over that footwork--sliding foot across and toeing in! Good stuff!

Thank you Doug. Was just thinking she might be leaving something behind by taking that step...but like i said, im far from qualified to make these assumptions on my own. I appreciate the feedback and wont worry about it too much.

Yes, Java has been an enormous help and have really tried to incorporate the info he has in the drive mechanics thread.

It seems like her front landing foot is pointed to the side more than it has been in the past and it is leaving her off balance after release.

Gosh, for her age and the changes she's been working on, I think it might be time to let her pitch for awhile. I think she looks pretty darned good. Next fall and into winter let us see her again and give suggestions to work on through the off season.

Stepping out of the pitch is usually a result of not getting back behind vertical enough. (Nose behind your belt) Imagine throwing a knife or a stick a couple feet forward into the mud. If the knife lands straight up, the momentum will carry its handle forward. Get the angle correct and it sticks right in perfectly... exact same concept here.
Your dd is looking really good here!!! Im with Doug in saying Im not seeing any major issues either.

First before any other comment......she really is very good!
Check this out as it may be part of what you are seeing. Check her spine angle/tilt at time of foot plant......then when she is at her release. It appears that she may be tilted back more at release than at foot plant.....this could create the problem of falling toward third base that you see. What ever spine angle/tilt she has at landing foot plant is the most it should ever be....it may become less, but never more tilt. She is sort of making a negative move.....upper torso tilting backwards when she is trying to throw forward.
Her stride length is exceptional.....maybe a little to much which in turn causes a bit of "hip lock" and subsequently a backwards tilt action with the upper torso.
Don't do a huge over correction 'cause she is not very far off.

In the video, pause it at the 14 second mark. Her stride foot is landing at almost 90° rather than the approximate 45° goal. Looks really violent on her ankle.
This may be contributing to the sideways fall.
When I first looked at it, I was thinking you were saying she was walking out of the pitch towards the catcher... how old is she?

She just turned 12. I totally see the landing at a 90 degree angle. That is something we have always struggled with. Her comment to me a couple days ago in regards to the landing foot was...."if i am trying to stay open longer my foot keeps landing at that angle". I really didnt have a response for her. Any advice on staying open longer without landing at a 90?
