I'd say if she has a good drop, a change and can fling that spiral with heat and hit her spots--give it a whirl!

A 6/12 spin is really tough to achieve. Spiral or slightly better works great for most.

Do those clips work now? I have tried to view them over the years on different computers and I have not found the magic setup that works. I've tried installing the plugins and every time I get nada.

They used to work for me. I just tried it again and they don't anymore. I think they're broken.

i went through the exact same thing. but i watched his video on the riseball and he says most elite pitchers have 11-5 rotation...

At DD's last lesson with BH, the rise was the primary focus of the lesson, he demoed a few to her with me catching. The ball wasn't a true 6-12 spin. It was more like 11-5 or maybe even 10-4 on a few. Never the less, it was pretty impressive. I knew where it was headed and it still almost knocked my hat off my head!!

my dd has alot of spin. but it is not 12-6. it is bullet spin or sometimes a better axis. should she start trying to throw it in games? i thought she should wait till she got a solid line on the ball, with 12-6 rotation.

You need to work toward a 12-6 rotation and get as close as possible. Then if it moves enough to be effective, throw it. If your DD did not have perfect swing mechanics would you not let her hit?

GOOD POINT !!!
she has thrown it twice in games, both times the batter was fouling off her fastball,so she tried the rise and it was effective on those occasions.

does a ball thrown at a high target count as arise ball or does it also need the spin?

This is the magic question that reveals the majority "fake-riseballers" out there.

It's got to have some level of backspin to make the ball drop less than other pitches on the same trajectory.

Fake riseballers throw with lots of "up-trajectory" (WAY easier for batter to identify 14U and older).

Real riseballers release with same trajectory as their other pitches making it very effective.

Actually 6 to 12 rotation. 12 to 6 would be a drop.

Very few pitchers ever achieve true 6 to 12.
Most of them are a little off axis as in 5 to 11/4 to 10 if they stay close to the body on release or 7 to 1/8 to 2 if you are farther away from your body.
