What would you recommend for a pitcher that won't stay loaded? I'm thinking the lock it in drill would be best, but I was wondering what you think? Is starting in the handshake position ball facing 1st (Rhp) as opposed to ball facing the ground is preferred? My dd starts with ball facing down and I think this is one of the reasons she turns ball to third at 12:00?

My DD does same thing starts with ball to ground on her upswing but it naturally turns to third at 12-11. I have tried to explain for her to externally rotate or open her arm back up after 12 but it does not translate. I was looking at some Doug Gillis videos and he takes the ball up with it facing first. I have heard though that puts alot of stress on the shoulder :(

Basically, getting "inside" the ball is the ONLY thing required to produce this spin.

Hello. I am a new poster, but not a new reader of all of the wonderful information on this board. I have a question I thought perhaps someone could help with. My daughter seems to have lost what was a fairly consistent 11-5 or so spin, and now many of her pitches seem to be coming out in almost a bullet spin. I searched and found the above information from Board Member about getting inside the ball to achieve a correct spin, but I don't think I understand what is meant by "getting inside the ball." Can anyone explain it to me?

Thanks for all of the helpful information here. I may have to quit my job to have the time to digest it all!

Happy New Year, all.

"hand inside the ball" means you are leading with the pinkie as the arm comes down the the circle from after 9:00 into 6:00 release and therefore the hand is on the inside part of the ball (closest to the hip). HE instructors erroneously want the hand to be behind the ball (instead of inside the ball).

I love the description, "HE instructors 'erroneously' want the hand to be behind the ball..." Though we know it to be erroneous, they don't. That's why we still see so much of it (HE) taught at all levels. One must be humble to recognize one's errors.
