My 9 year old daughter just started pitching this fall and I've been trying to educate myself by doing lots of internet research and observing at games and pitching clinics. While looking at some videos on youtube I came across this one : YouTube - Fast pitch for a 9 yr old!

Isn't the first step that this girl is taking with her right foot illegal? If so, is this what people are referring to as "crow hopping"?

Thanks. This board is great btw!

Yes, the first step off of the rubber with the right foot is illegal, but it is not a crow hop. The crow hop comes after she takes that step with the right foot, then hops to replant the right foot even closer to home before finally pushing off and throwing from there. She will get called illegal on the first step, but the crow hop is virtually NEVER ever called.

Funny watching the guy on the radar pad several mph's by pushing the radar gun quickly toward the ball. The speed at which he is moving that gun must be subtracted from the reading if he wants to know the speed the pitcher is throwing. I suspect that he knows this, but maybe he wants to go to internet discussion boards and say that his 9yo throws 50 mph, lol.

The comments after the video are the best. Somehow they seem to think this girl is throwing 67 mph or something like that. Where do they find these people?
