How to explain to DD the finish of I/R or Whip?

So she seems to be converting to I/R pretty well. We aren't pushing it too hard, but trying to bring it naturally. We stopped doing the HE drills and doing more drills that are I/R and we have changed instructors which will help.

She is getting it except for the end. She is still trying finish with the HE follow through or pulling up her arm after the release as opposed to the whip follow-through that occurs more naturally across the body.

Any thoughts on how to explain it to a 9 year old? We have done all the I/R drills and I have showed her the vids. Told her to just let her arm flow naturally, but she isn't having that "ah ha" moment and I seem to stink at teaching it. I know we will cover it eventually in lessons(only had one with the new PC), but I wish I could figure out how to explain it to a kid. You know a funny or clever way that helps them get it?? Any thoughts?

Yes, I have read and re-read the I/R sticky. Hopefully I am not such a dunce to have missed how to explain it to a child. LOL

We did try the shoulder, but I was concerned about creating another problem. Hand in pocket, pretty good!

Careful with this.

Forcing an I/R "finish" doesnt ensure shes actually getting proper upper arm rotation, and pause right before release, and lower arm I/R and "whip" passing from behind the elbow.

Theres plenty of video example on this forum of young pitchers so fixated and forcing a palm-down/across the body finish, but actually not achieving any or very little I/R at all. You can still plam-down "push" the ball through the release zone and then finish to make it look like an I/R delivery.

I am not forcing or teaching. Was just looking for a key phrase for a 9 year old to understand how the whip might finish and to steer away from the HE follow through. I am going to let her develop her own style as Finch, Scarborough and many others whip very differently, all with variations on the finish. Not saying one is right or wrong, but their own style. I just feel in my gut that you can't whip when you are still embracing the HE follow-through or "stop". Thanks for the pocket and touch the shoulder suggestions.

The best way to TRAIN I/R and and steer away from the push and HE delivery..........IS to finish palm down........PERIOD........

In a position I refer to as "The Frenchmans Kiss" postion...........See if you can spot the position in this clip:

Here is the "Frenchmans Kiss" finish isolated:

I wonder if this deserves a bump for anyone else as we head into fall/winter training?

I know my DD has been working on brush interference and releasing at the back hip but then her arm tends to want to stop abruptly after release. This may be the visual that we are looking for . . .

When you say stopping abruptly after release, do you mean like in these examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmiG4ji3onQ (notice the initial stop, then move into a secondary follow through)

When a kid is first learning whip, I like to emphasis the lower arm/hand being as loose and relaxed as possible, but still being able to hold onto the ball. I generally don't like any forced follow through, but I have grown fond of short/abbreviated follow through discussed by javasource and others here.
