Jackie Traina played LL softball and took her team to the LL World Series Championship. Just sayin' :)

Im guessing Jackie is the highest profile pitcher to have pitcher at that tourney, but she didnt even win it she got second! Carley Hoover (Last years Gatorade National HS Player of the Year) took her team to and won it in 2008. It is a rec league program but it doesnt mean there are never any good players in there.

I equate national level TB pitchers going into LL as "trophy hunters".

There - I said it....

RB-We have already established that the pitching quality at this tournament was as good, if not better, than PGF. I mean Jackie Traina once played in it and the pitcher from Virginia played on an A level TB team. What other proof do you need?

Just a reminder that many people cannot afford travel ball. For many of these girls, LL was a stretch. I am certain that they will be paying off their trip to Oregon, for a long time.

In Oro Valley ( a more lucrative part of Tucson) a 14U team, recently were runners up in Premier and I am not certain that they got any recognition at all. The LL girls have been all over the paper and television. To the general public, LL is the real deal, because they either played it or have never heard of ASA.

Wouldnt argue that a bit. But arent all the teams in PGF chasing a trophy too? LOL. I know what your saying but is the only trophy in the world worth chasing the PGF trophy? Personally i think most kids would trade a college scholorship for all their metals and trophy's. playing the All Start tourney for a year or 2 shouldnt hold back the true players from getting their scholorships. Someone has to win the LL tourney every might as well be a good team that has good pitching that foolows the rules of residencey the LL requires.

Sorry, not even close. My dd plays on the same local travel circuit that the Virginia team plays in and although she's a year or two older than most of those players she has played against several of those players, including the pitcher (who was not the #1 at that time) The A level team the pitcher currently plays for is a good team for our area but they are far from dominant, they are about .500 against other area A teams and lose by a lot to PGF qualifying teams. They went to Pony nationals (not ASA or PGF) and finished fairly high but didn't win it.

I'm not knocking the pitcher, her LL team/program or her travel team but to claim the LLWS is as good, if not better, than PGF on a competitive level is beyond ridiculous.

soupy62;187551I think alot of the radar stuff has to do with where the gun is at and what kind of equipment is being used. For me it seems like the higher the gun sits the higher the readings get.[/QUOTE said:
The farther away from a 0* angle (catcher's mit area) the slower the reading will be from true velocity. This is just the physics and not anything to do with the individual equipment accuracy or calibration. I have no idea how ESPN shows an elevated velocity from an approximate 60* angle (my guess from the WCWS). The readying should be 1/2 or 50% of true at a 60* angle.

Dusty-scroll back a little in the thread and the sarcasm of my last post might come through a little better. :)

I dont think any one would argue that PGF top end pitchers are better. And the quality of the teams is WAY better than LL. Carly Hoover threw 62MPH in hte LLWS as a 13 year old. I seen the kid pitch with my own eyes it was harder than anything i had seen that year even inthe 14U games i seen. she has finished int he top 5 at PGF the last 2 years and will be attending Stanford next season. Not saying that all the pitchers at the LLWS are PGF type pitchers but every now and then 1 floats thru. Most of the people that have negative things to say about LL are people that dont have it in their town, or couldnd put a competitive enough team on the field to win it. From experience there is no experience for any kid under 18 that will be better than to experience the 12u WS in Portland. AGAIN not the best competition just the best experience. And it is 1 year!
