That is it...it makes her focus on keeping her body up when she throws. Look at her balance. She is up when she finishes. Geez, she almost looks like a pitcher. Very nice. She is also smiling, which means she is having fun.
To do this drill, she has to keep her arms and body moving in a straight line so that she can "catch" herself with her left foot. If she bends over or is spinning, she'll be all over the place.
If you want to get it really scientific, it provides immediate tactile feedback. She doesn't need anyone to tell her whether she is doing it right--she knows immediately.
You might want her to do a little more arm swing as she walks to the rubber. She is hesitant when she first starts.
As soon as she gets comfortable doing this, then she should increase the difficulty. more arm speed and more push off with her legs. You push her until she can't do it correctly--of course, always with the idea of having some fun. She needs to relax and be smooth.
It is called the "Carolina Walk Through" because I first saw this being done by a pitcher from Coastal Carolina University years ago. We knew about "walk through" (same as this drill, but the pitcher puts her left foot down).
She looks a little uncomfortable when she first starts out, like she doesn't know how to hold the ball. Do you and her ever just play pitch and catch with her throwing underhanded?

She is having fun ... gets frustrated sometimes .... but usually the one dragging me out ....
We did take two weeks (+) off so working her back in ... today was her 3rd day and pushing her more each day ....
Keep telling her that making changes initially results in some accuracy issues ... not like she was throwing over the shed ....
(faster arm speed balls are much faster but a little high....release being adjusted and they get better each day)
Doen't take 5 pitches to fix! LOL
She did more Carolina today ... pushing a little more today ... just doing about 20 ...
She is working on staying up, staying "skinny" (open), arm speed ...
Don't want to change too much as tryouts start Sunday .. her speed and accuracy are up ... chane ups very reliable ...two seam moving all over ... starting curve ....
Doesn't really like to arm circle toe tap drill ... says her shoulder feels funny ...
not sure why ....
THANKS!
SLUGGERS,
sorry, hijacking this thread..
Just curious about one aspect of this drill, although I love it and have used it in the past. Are the two steps preceding the pitch necessary for the effect of the drill? or would/could the drill be done off the rubber with the normal pitch?
Looking to stop DD from bending over and throwing mostly arm at end of motion (see earlier video posts), adding this to her workouts will hopefully start to help.
thanks.
