Shove The Coach drill. To develop a strong and aggressive forward push off.
Pitcher stands with both feet on the rubber, glove on but no softball.
Dad / Coach or instructor stands a couple of feet in front of and facing pitcher.
Pitcher places both hands on coach's chest. Coach places one foot in front of other for balance.
Coach backs up a few inches at a time until the pitcher is on a slight angle and her entire body is leaning forward, not bending at the waist.
Pitcher now raises the stride foot off the ground and pushes against the coach trying to shove the coach backwards but NOT USING THE ARMS to push, ONLY THE PIVOT LEG. Let her push like that for 8 to 10 seconds, then ease up. Now briong the stride leg down.
That is how much of a forward lean she should be on when she STARTYS her push from the rubbER AND that is how hard she should push off.
This gives them the feel for both.
I used this drill on every student I ever worked with from 6 to 22 YO and it never failed.
