Left Field - When you report that 50 percent of teenagers drop out, I assume that includes kids still playing rec ball at 13-14. Would still like to see the ASA's report.
Well, if you figure a broad statement like "Almost half of all youth athletes drop out", one would assume they are talking about all youth sports. And that would include the 7-12yo who play multiple sports in their youth up until they start isolating to a few.
That statement does nothing to further this discussion as it's way too broad, IMO.
Our school ball is in the Fall. We are doing spring training now and we have already lost 4 starters from last year who were freshmen. We lost them to cheerleading and soccer, but we have 3 girls team sports that begin and play their seasons at the same time of year along with the cheer and dance stuff that goes on with football. Softball tends to become a second, third, fourth or no thought.
Was talking to a travel team coach and his #1 pitcher and hitter who is a sophomore going into junior isn't playing travel ball this summer and is only playing school ball this spring. She is going to do the college camps rounds in the fall to get exposure to the college coaches.
